Lesson Plan

The document outlines a 7th grade science lesson plan from Filamer Christian University that teaches students to locate the Philippines using latitude and longitude coordinates. The lesson includes introducing concepts of latitude and longitude through a song, having students match terms and images in groups, and demonstrating locations on a globe through class discussion. The goal is for students to understand how to identify locations using the coordinate system.

Learning Plan is Science - Grade 7

I. Learning Targets:
At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to:
a. Identify the difference between latitude and longitude;
b. describe the location of the Philippines using the latitude and longitude; and
c. demonstrate how places on Earth may be located using a coordinate
system. S7ES-Iva-1
II. Learning Content:
A. Topic: Locating the Philippines using coordinate system.
1. Concepts:
In geography, latitude is a geographic coordinate that specifies the
north–south position of a point on the Earth's surface. Latitude is an
angle which ranges from 0° at the Equator to 90° at the poles while
Longitude is a coordinate that specifies the east-west position of a point
on the Earth's surface ranging from 0° at the Prime Meridian to +180°
eastward and −180° westward.
2. Skills:
Trace the location of different places in the map.
Collaborate with other learners using critical thinking.
3. Values:
Following instructions, patience, cooperation and appreciate the
importance of locating places on earth using coordinate system.
B. Instructional Materials: Laptop, PowerPoint presentation, multimedia
projector, speaker, manila papers, paper tape, puzzle of Philippine map, cut-
out words, images, globes, colored chalks, and answer sheets.

lesson.

IV. Evaluation
Directions: Encircle the letter of the correct answer.
1. To locate exact places on the Earth, one must look at
a. the lines of latitude only.
b. the lines of longitude only.
c. a neighboring area to describe the location.
d. the intersecting lines of latitude and longitude.
2. When measuring the lines of latitude, always begin with the _____,
which represents 0 degrees.
a. prime meridian
b. equator
c. longitude
d. north pole

For numbers 3 to 5, refer to the map below:

3. In which longitude could you find the Philippines?

4. In which latitudes could you find the Philippines?
a. between 0° and 20° N c. between 120° E and 180° E
b. between 0° and 20° S d. between 120° W and 180° W

5. Identify the place from the given longitude, between 35° W and 80° W?

a. europe c. south america

b. asia d. Africa

V. Assignment
Directions: In a one bond of paper, make a map of a make-believe place.
It could be a place totally of their imagination, or a place such as Narnia,
Atlantis, or Hogsmeade. The maps should have a latitude and longitude grid
by which a person could locate specific places.
