EXAMPLE :

Design the slab shown as a one-way joist floor ( hordi system ).


Total D.L. = 6 kN/m2, L.L. = 3 kN/m2.
fc’ = 28 N/mm2, fy = 420 N/mm2.

Design of Slab :
Slab thickness = 80 mm

Slab reinforcement = ( As ) shr


= 1.8 h = 1.8 ( 80 ) = 144 mm2/ m
( 8 @ 340  147 mm2/ m )

Ribs Dimensions :
b = 120 mm, h = 330 mm, d = 270 mm
LOADS :

Ultimate load on slab = 1.4 (6) + 1.7 (3) = 13.5 kN/m2


Load on ribs from slab = 13.5 (0.52) = 7.02 kN/m
Weight of ribs = 1.4 (24) (0.12 x 0.33) = 1.33 kN/m
 Ultimate load on each rib = 7.02 + 1.33 = 8.35 kN/m
MOMENTS :

Load on beam from slab =13.5 (0.78) =10.53 kN/m


Weight of beam = 1.4 (24) (0.38 x 0.33) = 4.21 kN/m
Weight of wall = 1.4 ( 3.77 x 2.8 ) = 14.78 kN/m
 Ultimate load on beam = 10.53 + 4.21 + 14.78 = 29.52 kN/m

MOMENTS :

Beam supports a 200 wall, 2.8 meters high
LOADS :

Load on beam from slab = 13.5 ( 6.2 ) = 83.70 kN/m


Weight of beam = 1.4 (24) (1.0 x 0.33) = 11.09 kN/m
Weight of wall = 1.4 ( 3.77 x 2.8 ) = 14.78 kN/m
Weight of ribs = 11 (1.4) (24) (0.12 x 0.33 x 5.2) / 6.2
= 12.28 kN/m

 Ultimate load on beam = 83.70 +11.09+14.78 +12.28 = 121.85 kN/m

MOMENTS :
