Materials that Absorb Water

Content Standard:
The learners demonstrate understanding of grouping different materials based on their
properties.

Performance Standard:
The learners should be able to recognize and practice proper handling of products.

The learners should be able to classify materials based on the ability to absorb water,
float, sink and undergo decay.

Okay class, may we all stand for a prayer.


Sam, kindly lead the prayer.

You may now take your seat. Thank you, ma’am!

Before we proceed on our topic for today. ( Checking the attendance )


Let me check your attendance first. As I call
on your name say present.

Okay, very good! Everyone is present today.

Do you still remember our topic last Yes, ma’am! The different properties of

These are the solid, liquid, and gas, ma’am!
Can you state what are the different
properties of matter?

Now, I will show you different pictures then


write down on your notebooks if this is solid,
liquid or gas.
Ma’am, solid are the ones that are firm and
has three dimensions, while liquid is
substance that flows freely and lastly, gas are
the ones with no exact shape and no exact
volume.

Base on the pictures I’ve showed you what is


the difference between solid, liquid, and gas?

Our lesson for today is about materials that
absorb water.

I will present to you a power point


presentation about the content of our lesson. ( the students will do some experimentation)
I require you all to listen and focus so you
understand what will I be going to discuss.

2. During the Lesson


B.3 Explore

Okay, I have here a piece of paper and a


bottled water. I will soak the paper into the
water. I will be going to group you into four.
Then, you will be going to tell me your group
observation on the experiment we will be
going to conduct. The material was round, thick and soft. It
disappeared and the material got wet.

As we soak the paper in to the water the The water dripped and when we take out
paper loses its hydrogen bonds holding the materials, we can still see the water.

Some of the materials absorb water more


than others. Cotton is very porous, which
makes it a natural absorber of water.

Porous material are materials having small


holes that allow air or liquid to pass through.

Describe the following materials based on the
ability to absorb water.

( The students will write their answers on a


one whole sheet of pad paper )

( Students will find material inside the


classroom and will so as instructed)
B.7 Extend

Go around the classroom. Collect at least 5


materials and test them as to whether or not
the materials absorb water.

V. Remarks:
The lesson was successfully delivered as planned. The new lesson will be
taught next meeting.

VI. Reflection:
The students are cooperating during the discussion and it made lesson
easier to teach. The topic I have prepared was successfully delivered on time.
Closure:
We never know the worth of water till the well is dry.
