6 Technical Data
6.1 Introduction
The MAINS CONTROL UNIT is the interface between the mains and the system and allows
connection of the system to different mains supplies. It has an isolating transformer suitable for use in
medical equipment to separate the system from the mains. The unit delivers output voltages to the
Mobile Viewing Station (MVS) and the Stand.
Dimensions:
Mains Control Unit 389 x 311 x 132 mm (LxWxH)
Mains Transformer 290 x 91mm (DxH)
Weight:
Mains Control Unit 6,50 kg
Mains Transformer 22,0 kg
The MCU can be switched on and off using the ON/OFF-circuits of the system, or by using the
ON/OFF-switches on the Switch-On-Board.
Relay WA-K1 (mains relay) becomes active when the MCU is switched on. The mains current runs
through the damping resistors R1 – R5, allowing a “soft start” off the system without damaging the
mains fuses F1 and F2. After a time of about 100ms, the relay K10 on the Switch-On-Board will
become active. With this, the damping resistors R1 – R5 are by-passed by thyristor module TH1.
Depending on the connected Stand-System and the position of connector WA-X5 (stand select), the
relays WA-K2 (power to MVS) and WA-K3 (power to the Stand) can be switched on.
If a power failure (e.g. voltage loss of the mains) occurs, the thyristor will be switched off and the
current will run through the damping resistors again for about 100ms. This prevents the fuses from
blowing when the power comes back on.
Pressing any OFF button (MCU or MVS) switches WA-K1 to WA-K3 off. Also refer to section 6.3.
Notice:
- Pressing the Stand-Off-Button switches only WA-K3 off.
- Pressing the OFF button at a RA-System switches only relay WA-K2 off, WA-K1 and WA-K3
remain on due to battery-loading is served.
Disconnecting the stand while the MCU is on, turns relay WA-K3 off immediately. This switches off the
230V and the 600V voltage on the Stand-cable.
Connecting a RA-System Stand will cause the MCU to serve 230V for battery-loading to the Stand as
soon as the system is connected to the mains supply.
If the damping resistors R1 – R5 get too hot (± 10°C) the thermal switch F10 will power off the whole
unit. The MCU will go in Error-Mode, indicated by LED H2 on the Switch-On-Board.

WARNING
THE EARTH WIRE OF THE MAINS PLUG AND THE EARTH-TERMINAL OF THE MCU MUST HAVE
AN ELECTRICAL CONNECTION. CHECK THIS WITH AN MEASURING DEVICE.
Take the service location key of the MCU (label) which is filed on top of this manual. Stick the MCU
label on the inner side of the MVS rear cover or over the present MCU service location key (in case of
a MCU replacement).
WARNING
TO REDUCE THE RISK OF CONTACT WITH A LIVE MAINS CIRCUIT, DISCONNECT THE MAINS
PLUG AND SHORT CIRCUIT THE PINS OF THE PLUG BEFORE SERVICING ON THE MCU
Check the nominal mains voltage of the hospital and then make following connections:
NOTE
Check WA1 X4 / X5 connector according table below.
Improper connection will cause damage.
For example: If the mains voltage is 230V, following connections must be made:
WARNING
A WRONGLY ADJUSTED MCU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE UNIT AND/OR RISK
THE HEALTH OF PEOPLE
IT CAN BE DANGEROUS IF THE VOLTAGE ADJUSTMENT OF THE MCU HAS NOT BEEN
CORRECTLY CARRIED OUT BEFORE CONNECTION TO THE MAINS SUPPLY
CAUTION
TO AVOID RISK OF FIRE, ONLY REPLACE FUSES WITH THE SAME TYPE/RATINGS
INSTRUCTION
CROSS OUT THE INCORRECT FUSE RATING ON THE FUSE LABEL NEAR THE FUSES WITH A
BLACK, NON REMOVEABLE MARKER.
Configuration:
Voltages from 100V to 130V: Mains plug WA1X7 has to be connected to WA1X5
Voltages from 200V to 240V: Mains plug WA1X7 has to be connected to WA1X4

TO AVOID THE RISK OF FIRE, TAKE EXTRA CARE WHEN CONNECTING THE PCB.
CONNECTING PLUG WAX7 IN THE WRONG POSITION CAN CAUSE PERSONAL HARM, AND
COULD ALSO CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE TRANSFORMER ON THE PCB
5 Setting to work
Attention:
- Jumper WA1-X7 allows PE – GND (pcb) interconnection if closed
- Jumper WA1-X9 prevents Thyristor ignition if closed – ONLY FOR SERVICE PURPOSES
CAUTION
NOTE
If wire 6 has to removed, you can either remove it completely, or stick the two ends into one terminal.
