C5I&C5M Environment Paint System

The document provides information on surface preparation, application conditions, and application methods for a Nippon paint system. Key steps include blast cleaning surfaces to Sa 21⁄2 or power tool cleaning to St 2, applying primer, intermediate, and finish coats with airless spray, and allowing proper drying times between coats and before use. The system includes a zinc phosphate epoxy primer, an epoxy MIO intermediate coat, and a polyurethane finish coat applied to a total thickness of 300um.

Paint System

Surface preparation
All surfaces should be clean, dry and free from contamination. Cleanliness: Blast-cleaning to Sa 2½. Power tool cleaning to min. St 2 .
may be acceptable, subject to exposure conditions.

Condition during application

The temperature of the substrate should be minimum 5°C and at least 3°C above the dew point of the air, temperature and relative humidity
measured in the vicinity of the substrate. Good ventilation is required in confined areas to ensure correct drying.

Application methods
Spray - Use airless spray
The compressed air supply used for blasting shall be free of water and oil. Adequate separators and traps shallprovided and these shall
be drained continuously.

Unpainted surface
Before painting , Machined surfaces such as shafts or flange faces will be sticky on masking tape to prevent paint penetration.

Drying times are generally related to air circulation, temperature, film thickness and number of coats, and will beaffected correspondingly.
The figures given in the table are typical with:
* Good ventilation (Outdoor exposure or free circulation of air)
* Typical film thickness
* One coat on top of inert substrate
