1.0 Introduction
Home Appliance Control using Mobile Phone can be used to turn on / off the devices and
various appliances in our home. It can prove very useful for disabled people. This project can
also be used in shops, offices, and industries. The user has to dial a call to the mobile which is
connected to the project. Then the user has to press various keys to control the devices.
A home appliance control system (HACS) is a system which provides various services to
remotely operate on home appliances, such as microwave oven, TV, and garage door etc.
through remote devices such as mobile phone, desktop and palm-top. This document furnishes
the controls of the ON/OFF action of almost any home appliance. The mobile phone is been used
in this regard. We can control device switching from almost any corner of the world without any
call charges
Our project provides the advantages of appliance control by a cell phone, through this we
can control the devices from any part of the world provided there must be network connection in
cell phone. This system has wider range as large as the coverage area of the service provider and
also no interference with other controllers and up to ten controls. So this system will be a simple,
powerful and flexible tool that will offer this service at any time, and from anywhere with the
constraints of the technologies being applied. Possible target appliances include (but are not
limited to) microwave oven, Room lights and fans, TV, and garage door etc. Conventionally,
others use RF circuits, which have the drawbacks of limited working range, limited frequency
range and limited control. Use of a mobile phone for devices control can overcome these
limitations.
The design must be translated into machine-readable form. The code generation step performs
their tasks. If design is performed in a detailed manner, code generation can be accomplished
mechanistically.
4.0actual procedure followed
1. Home automation – This project can be used to control various Home Appliances
2. We can control device from a long distance, thus it gives ease of access.
3. Home Appliances Controlling using Mobile is having a faster operation and is very efficient.
4. No need to carry separate remote or any other controlling unit.
8.0 Classification
1. Individual Control devices – These devices were introduced in the market during the early years.
Unlike the central control system, there is an independent control for each of the devices like AC, heater,
etc. These devices are user friendly and very handy.
2. Distributed Control Systems – The important characteristic of this type of systems is emergency
shut-down. These devices also include features such as hardware and software components launched
by SCADA for better automatic control over the devices reducing the interaction with human. This helps
you to alter the control parameters.
3. Centrally Controlled Systems – These systems are programmed via computers in order to handle all
kinds of functions on appliances like heaters, AC’s, doors, refrigerators, windows, cooking systems, etc.
Despite you are at home or outside. Via telephone or internet, you can be connected to control system
from office. In case things over the control parameters are forgotten, one can still be safe and timely on
these controls with the help of computerized control.
9.0 Features
This system can control up to 10 devices, it may be any electric or electronic appliances,
and each device is given a unique code.
There is no risk for false switching, it makes accurate switching any false switching the
device are not done.
This system doesn’t cost a lot of money, and it’s easy to implement.
Before changing the state of the device we can confirm the present status of the device.
The system gives an acknowledgement tone after switching on the devices to confirm the
status of the devices.
Its highly secured system using the white list programs on the home-based phone to block
any other call from controlling the home appliances.
This system can be controlled by multi users, this feature refer to user choice.
10. 0 Working
Larger-Scale Automation Systems Operate with Computer Software – As our homes are filled
with a large number of appliances, it is tedious to memorize their working procedures and its
accurate timings in order to work safely. Anyone of us would wish to have these appliances
working in an automatic condition as these appliances are brought for our comfort and
convenience.
SCADA is a kind of software to enable automation process and care for these appliances. The
installation can be done on a panel mounted micro-controller known as Programmable logical
control (PLC) instead of desktop PC. An engineer can help you to install to set the operational
parameters in the different procedures such as lighting time, TV to be switched on/off, water
heater to be turned on/off, etc.
Smaller Installations operate using a single thermostat like Control Panel – Central controlling is
not at all essential for smaller and less installations as they can be controlled individually by
making use of a single thermostat. A thermostat is an analog device to calculate temperatures and
trigger relays to activate under preset conditions such as heaters, AC, and refrigerators. Also
limit switches, level sensors and proximity switches work in the exact way for doors, windows,
water tanks, etc.
Advantages :
1. Energy Savings
Home automation systems have definitely proven themselves in the arena of energy
efficiency. Automated thermostats allow you to pre-program temperatures based on
the time of day and the day of the week. And some even adjust to your behaviors,
learning and adapting to your temperature preferences without your ever inputting a pre-
selected schedule. Traditional or behavior-based automation can also be applied to
virtually every gadget that can be remotely controlled – from sprinkler systems to coffee
makers.
2. Convenience
In today’s fast-paced society, the less you have to worry about, the better. Right?
Convenience is another primary selling point of home automation devices, which
virtually eliminate small hassles such as turning the lights off before you go to bed or
adjusting the thermostat when you wake up in the morning.
3. Security
Remote monitoring can put your mind at ease while you’re away from the house. With
remote dashboards, lights and lamps can be turned on and off, and automated blinds can
be raised and lowered. These capabilities – combined with automated security systems –
can help you mitigate the risks of intrusions: you will be alerted immediately if
something uncharacteristic happens.
Disadvantages :
1. Installation
Depending on the complexity of the system, installing a home automation device can be a
significant burden on the homeowner. It can either cost you money if you hire an outside
contractor or cost you time if you venture to do it yourself.
2. System Compatibility
Controlling all aspects of home automation from one centralized platform is important,
but not all systems are compatible with one another. Your security system, for example,
may require you to log in to one location to manage settings, while your smart thermostat
may require you to log in to another platform to turn the air conditioner on and off.
3. Cost
Even though the price of home automation systems has become much more affordable in
recent years, the cost to purchase and install a device can still add up. Consumer Reports
offers a wide range of information and insights – including costs – on the best home
automation systems on the market.
12. 0 Conclusion
By developing this Home appliance control system with its multi control feature which we are
controlling with a cell phone by just a missed call, We have overcome the drawbacks of RF
communication which have a limited range as this system can control the home appliances from
anywhere in the world. The main advantage of this system is that it is a simplest system with less
complexity. A miss call will turn ON the device and again a miss call will also be used to turn
OFF the device. Considering all the situations, this system is integrated for less energy
consumption and security purpose
