This study aims to determine the effects of gamification on students' motivation and achievement in physics. Specifically, it seeks to answer questions about students' test performance, motivation, and perceptions of physics before and after gamification, and how gamification correlates with motivation to learn physics concepts. The researchers also want to understand students' and teachers' experiences with gamified physics instruction.

Statement of the Problem

This action research focuses on using gamification for the purpose of improving the
practice of teaching thereby motivating students’ learning and lead to conceptual understanding.
Specifically, it sought to answer the following questions:
1. What is the students’ level of test performance in Physics before and after applying
gamification?
2. What are students’ perceptions toward Physics and learning Physics before
gamification?
3. How does gamification correlate with students’ motivation in learning Grade 10 Physics
concepts such as electromagnetic spectrum and light?
4. What are the students’ views about gamification?

Statement of the Problem

The study is aimed at determining the effects of gamification on the students’ motivation
and achievement in Physics. Specifically, it seeks to answer the following questions:
1. What is the effect of gamifying physics instruction in terms of
a. student achievement
b. student motivation

2. What are the students’ lived experiences on gamified Physics instruction?

3. What are the teachers’ lived experiences in implementing gamified physics instruction?

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The main research interest of this study is to determine the effects of the integration of
gamification in teaching Grade 10 physics to students’ motivation and performance in the subject.
Specifically the study aims to answer the following problems:
What are the effects of gamification on:
a) motivation of students towards learning physics in terms of the three components of PMQ
II: intrinsic motivation; self-efficacy and self-determination
b) academic performance of students in learning physics as measured by the pre-post test
normalized gain
c) perception of students towards Physics as a subject
