Good Morning to one and all present here .

On behalf of the Organising committee and the

members of the English Organisation I extend a very warm welcome to each and everyone
present here.
As we near the auspicious festival of Christmas let the students of the 11th std take you back in
time to an event that took place1000ds of years agone which is of great significance both
historically and religiously.
2000 years ago in the town of Nazareth lived a young woman named Mary . She was betrothed
to Joseph , a carpenter. One day , while she was working , the angel of the lord appeared to her
and told her that she was going to bear the son of God . He greeted her and said, “You are
favoured by the Lord! The Lord is with you.”
29 She was startled by what the angel said and tried to figure out what this greeting meant.
30 The angel told her , “Don’t be afraid, Mary. You have found favour with God.
31 You will become pregnant, give birth to a son,
and name him Jesus.
32 He will be a great man
and will be called the Son of the Most High.
The Lord God will give him
the throne of his ancestor David.
33 Your son will be king of Jacob’s people forever,
and his kingdom will never end.”
34 Mary asked the angel, “How can this be? I’m a virgin.”
35 The angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come to you, and the power of the Most High
will overshadow you. Therefore, the holy child developing inside you will be called the Son of
God.
36 “Elizabeth, your relative, is six months pregnant with a son in her old age. People said she
couldn’t have a child. 37 But nothing is impossible for God.”
38 Mary answered, “I am the Lord’s servant. Let everything you’ve said happen to me.”
Then the angel left her.
Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be
pregnant through the Holy Spirit. 19 Because Joseph was faithful to the law, and yet did not want
to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.
But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said,
“Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is
conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him
the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”
When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary
home as his wife. (Angels we have heard on high)
Mary was due to have the baby when a new leader named Caesar Augustus ordered all the
people to go back to their homeland for census so Mary and Joseph headed to Bethlehem ,
Joseph’s hometown . (Long time ago)
Mary , about to have a baby soon , began looking for a place to sleep. But every place they went
they were turned away because it was full. Until at last they came to a small Inn they asked the
inn keeper for a room to stay the kind inn keeper took pity on them. He offered them some room
in a manger. Joseph made a warm place for Mary to rest and in a few hours Mary gave birth to
little baby Jesus. Mary wrapped Jesus in a white cloth and gently lay him in a manger . (Away in
a manger).
Shepherds were working during the night in the fields around Bethlehem. They were watching
over their flocks of sheep to keep them safe from wild animals. Suddenly, an angel of the Lord
appeared to the shepherds . “Do not be afraid,” the angel said, “for behold, I proclaim to you
good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For today in the city of David a saviour has
been born for you who is Christ and Lord. And this will be a sign for you: You will find an infant
wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.” (Hark the herald) .
After the angel left, the shepherds decided to find the child. “Let us go, then, to Bethlehem to see
this thing that has taken place, which the Lord has made known to us,” they said. The men
quickly went into the city and found Mary and Joseph, as well as the baby lying in the manger .
( O holy night)
After Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, during the time of King Herod, Wise Men from the
east came to Jerusalem and asked, 'Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We
saw his star in the east and have come to worship him.' When King Herod learned this he was
troubled, and all of Jerusalem with him. He called together all the leading clerics and scholars of
the law, he questioned them where the Christ was to be born. 'In Bethlehem in Judea,' they
answered, 'for this is what the prophet has written: "'But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,
are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will be the
shepherd of my people Israel.'" Then Herod summoned the Wise Men secretly and found out
from them the precise time the star had emerged. He sent them to Bethlehem and said, 'Go and
make a careful search for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go
and worship him. ‘As directed by King Herod, they went on their way, and the star they had seen
in the east went before of them until it stopped over the area where the child laid. Upon arriving
at the house, they observed the child with his mother Mary, and they kneeled down and
worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, incense,
and myrrh . (we 3 kings).
The king’s and shepherds had seen what the angels had told and that the Lord promised Baby
Jesus would bring the Light of the Love into the world. (Silent night) End- joy to the world
