Course Description : This course provides the students the necessary facts leading to a clear
Understanding of the many facets of the child’s physical, cognitive and emotional with emphasis on
personal and social development enhanced through play and social development.
Introductory Activity:
It's 8 a.m. Three-year-old Jane and her dad arrive at the preschool classroom. They head for the reading nook,
where they enjoy a story together. After five minutes, her father hugs her and says good-bye. She moves to the
clay table and starts shaping a creature.
Jane has come a long way since her first day, when she sobbed all morning. How did she adjust so well?
Skilled, caring preschool teachers helped her and her father learn how to separate for the day.
Preschool teachers introduce three- to six-year-old children to the world of school. They use games,
storytelling, and other activities to help children develop language and vocabulary, improve social skills, and
learn basic science and math concepts.
How do you describe the teacher’s role in teaching preschool education? Cite five common roles that foster child’s
development.
Both the teacher as well as the parent should be tough to their decision especially in the first weeks of the child
in the school. Tough in a way that even when a child cries hard because he/she doesn’t want to be left behind
by his/her parent at school they (parent) still manage to leave and entrust their child to the teacher. Trust on
the teacher from the child then follow on the process. This child will build trust on the teacher as he/she will
consider her teacher as his/her second parent which is one of the common role of a teacher. A teacher can be
his/her friend, playmate and a mentor, too.
Main Activity:
Read and analyze the sample classroom activity given below. Answer the following questions
An Episode to Ponder
We are tops of red and blue.
We spin round and round for you.
We twirl round and round some more,
‘til we tumble to the floor.
“ Let’s do it again, teacher….. please?” the children call, as the last youngster plops to the floor with glee. “
Let’s be helipropters this time,” giggles Tracy, “watch out for my frobellers!” The teacher and children climb
back up and joyously agree to repeat the activity as helicopters.” “ Rrmmm, rrmmm, rrmmm,” the whirring
engines clatter as everyone flutters around and around the room in small shuffling steps until it is time to
land and , perhaps, starts all over again.
A. Do you see yourself in this scene? What is being illustrated in this anecdote?
Yes, I see myself in the scene. The anecdote illustrated a tops but it widen the imagination of every young
minds.
B. Can you relate one reason why you decided that teaching young children is the field for you?
Being around with young children gives me a feeling of enjoyment especially when playing with them.
Storytelling is also one of my favorite in dealing with them. Maybe, I am and will always be a kid at heart.
C. Let us suppose that, just after the last “helicopter” lands, everything that can go wrong does go wrong. Are you
eagerly a part of this scene? Justify
Yes, every now and then things happen and everything happens for a reason but in spite of whatever goes
wrong a teacher will always be a teacher for some reason. He/she can still mange everything for all
circumstances.
Abstraction:
Only by plunging oneself totally into the work will accurately perceive the
realities, the joys, and the hardships that awaits in a career in early
childhood education.
Only by giving the best effort at all times will develop the sensitivity and skill required to offer
appropriate experiences for children at their most delicate stage of development.
Affectionate, responsive interactions between adult and child are crucial ingredients of the
development process.
You must have some very special reasons for having decided to become a teacher of young children.
Perhaps you made your decision after someone said that you have an excellent way of working with children.
You may want to emulate a good teacher you’ve seen in the past, or feel you have something special to
