1 Purpose
This procedure is intended to provide guidance and instructions for carrying out
start up and shutdown of ID fans during plant start-up.
2 Scope
This procedure is applicable to ID fans in Boiler area 3x660MW.
3 Input
Flue Gas, Power.
4 Output
Flue gas to stack
5 Responsibility
Boiler Field Operator, Boiler Desk Operator.
6 System Description
The function of ID fan is to evacuate the flue gas from boiler to chimney. There
are two fans (2*60% capacity). The fan is of axial flow type and capacity is
controlled by IGV which is controlled by motorized actuator. Motor bearings are
cooled by forced oil circulation. Common oil skid is provided for lube oil. Skid
contains 2 LP pumps and 2 oil coolers. LP pump suction is from oil tank and
discharge oil to bearings through lube oil cooler. There are bearing cooling fans
to cool fan bearings as bearing are located in flue gas path inside casing.
Motor has air and water cooled winding system and DOR is anticlockwise
(viewed from NDE side).

SOP for Induced Draught Fan (ID Fan)
11 Shutdown procedures
11.1. Take two mills out of service (according to mill shutdown SOP) from
five mill operation arid keep the boiler on three mill operation by
ensuring flame stability. Reduce the boiler load to 50%.
11.2. Take respective FD fan out of service as per FD fan SOP.
11.3. Take IGV in manual of the fan to be shut down. Furnace pressure
will be taken care in auto by the other ID fan IGV.
11.4. Gradually decrease the inlet guide blade control of fan to be taken
out of service. While performing this, keep the furnace draft in
range of -50 to -100 Pa.
11.5. Reduce inlet guide blade to minimum.
11.6. Check the current and vibration of running fan and get ensure for
its stability.
12 Isolation Procedures
12.1. Press emergency push button of ID fan.
12.2. Close fan inlet and outlet damper manually from local, of ID fan.
12.3. Switch off power supply of inlet damper.
12.4. Switch off power supply of outlet damper.
12.5. Isolate power supply of IGV actuator.
12.6. Isolate power supply of lube oil station of motor.
12.7. Switch off power supply of bearing cooling fan.
12.8. Isolate control supply of bearing cooling fan.
12.9. Rack out 11 KV ID fan breaker.
12.10. Close cooling water valve of motor as per requirement.
13 Normalization Procedures
13.1. Normalize power supply of ID Fan inlet and outlet damper.
13.2. Normalize power supply of IGV actuator.
13.3. Switch on power supply of Lube oil station and start pump and
check pump interlock.
13.4. Switch on power supply of bearing cooling fan and start fan and
check fan interlock.
13.5. Charge cooling water lines of lube oil station and ID fan motor.
13.6. Rack in 11 KV ID fan breaker.
13.7. Switch on control supply of 11 KV breaker.

16 Safety
16.1. Ensure PPE's are worn. Ensure adequate lighting near the work
place.
16.2. Ensure orderly execution of the entire activities with respect to
mechanical electrical system.
16.3. Always wear safety shoes, helmet and earplug.
16.4. While racking in and racking out the electrical breaker, wear Arc
suit and rubber gloves.
16.5. Before releasing the equipment for offline permit, ensure that the
equipment is electrically and mechanically isolated.
16.6. While racking in the breaker, ensure that the breaker is not in
closed condition and it is not in charged condition. Also ensure that
the earth switch is in released condition while normalizing the
breaker.
16.7. Wear cotton gloves while operating valves. Use F-rod, which is in
good condition for valve operation.
16.8. Use the ladder for getting into the lubricating oil tank pit for
checking the Lubricating oil pumps and the Lubricating oil tank
level. The ladder has to be cleaned periodically to avoid any
slippage while climbing up or down.
17 Environment
17.1. While starting/ Stopping and during running of the equipment,
check for any oil leakage/ Spillage, water leakage and for any
abnormal sound.
17.2. If any oil Leakage / Spillage is there, try to avoid the same spilling
on the ground by some temporary measures. Then inform to
maintenance department for arresting the same either online or
offline depending upon the condition. As a preventive measure to
avoid any spillage/leakage of oil, maintenance team will be
checking thoroughly for any crack, looseness of joints, and
healthiness of oil seals during preventive maintenance.
17.3. If any water leakage is there, inform to maintenance department for
arresting the same either on line or offline depending on the
condition.
17.4. In case of any abnormal sound, excessive vibration, check from
where the sound originates exactly. Immediately inform to
maintenance team for checking the same and taking corrective
actions.
