DISSERTATION GUIDELINES FOR MBA II STUDENTS


(2019-20)

Dissertation means DESK RESEARCH. Source of data can be


primary as well as secondary. You do not have to obtain a
certificate from any company. It has to be original research work
and has to be approved by the faculty guide. Source of Data –
Web sources like Government agencies, Published Reports by
Consulting Firms, Journals, Magazines.

1. In Semester IV the student shall work under the supervision of the


Faculty and carry out a dissertation.

2. The student will prepare and present a detailed research proposal prior
to starting the work.
It is mandatory for the student to seek advance written approval from
the faculty guide and the Director of the Institute about the
topic before commencing the dissertation work.

3. A dissertation outlining the entire problem, including a survey of


literature and the various results obtained along with their solutions
is expected to be produced. The student must submit the completed
dissertation and make an oral presentation of the same.
4. The completion of the dissertation / project shall be certified by the
Faculty Guide & approved by the Director of the Institute.

5. Dissertation (Full Credit) = 4 Credits (100 Marks)


There will be concurrent evaluation for 50 marks and external
(University panel) evaluation of 50 marks

6. The objectives of the Dissertation for MBA students are:


a. To offer the opportunity for the young students to acquire on job
the skills, knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions along with the
experience needed to constitute a professional identity.

b. To provide means to immerse students in actual supervised


professional experiences.

c. To gain deeper understanding in specific areas.

7. Commencement and Submission Schedule:

The student will prepare and present a detailed research proposal prior to
starting the work. It is mandatory for the student to seek advance
written approval from the faculty guide and the Director of the
Institute about the topic before commencing the dissertation work.

Submit a structured report in TWO hard copies & one soft copy (CD). In
the interest of environmental considerations, students are
encouraged to print their dissertation reports on both faces of the
paper.
8. The dissertation will commence immediately after the completion
of the III Semester examinations. Schedule for presentations is as
follows -

Final Submission (Two hard copy Last Week of March 2020
one soft copy)

9. Registration of topic: Once the topic is chosen, the student shall meet
the Faculty Guide and sign the required topic approval sheet
available with the faculty.

10. Synopsis: The submission of synopsis must be as per the time


schedule and the prescribed format. The format for the synopsis is
shown in Appendix I.

11. Dissertation Work Diary: Students and the guide shall have
regular interaction. Student should maintain a notebook for
dissertation and all the points discussed with the faculty guide
should be written in the same. The student should ensure that the
faculty guide has signed the same. The Guide and student are
expected to meet at least once in a week.

12. Final Report Format - The submission of the final report must be as
per the time schedule and the prescribed format. The format for the
same is shown in Appendix II.

13. Issue of Certificate – Once the Dissertation report is approved by the


Faculty Guide; certificate will be issued by the Institute.

Appendix I

Format of Synopsis
⮚ The synopsis should not exceed 2 pages (1,000 words)
⮚ The cover page of the synopsis shall be the same as the cover page of
the dissertation
⮚ The content of the synopsis:
o Literature Review (at least 5 citations)
o Need for the study
o Objectives
Hypothesis (if any)
o Scope of the study
o Methodology
o Sampling
o Data collection
o Plan of Analysis, and
o Chapter Scheme

Appendix II
Format
1. Chapter Scheme
The report should be well documented and supported by

● Title page (Strictly as per the format – will be given before
binding)
● Institute certificate
● Undertaking (Your Name at the bottom with signature)
● Acknowledgement (Your Name at the bottom with
signature)
● Index

1. Executive Summary (Shall be the brief of your dissertation


report)
2. Introduction - Outline of the problem/task undertaken
3. Objectives & Scope.
4. Industry profile ( If your study is based on particular
industry or industry data)
5. Review of literature
1) Theoretical review (Conceptual theory related to
project topic)
2) Research review (Information regarding previous
similar research by anybody in same/similar
company)
6. A) Research methodology (Theory expected)
a) Research- Meaning, Definition
b) Research Design
c) Type of Research Design (Specify the type of your
research design)
d) Data collection
e) Type of data collection Data (Primary and
secondary)
f) Data collection methods
g) Sample size
h) Sampling methods
i) Statistical tools and techniques used for data
analysis.
