LOST EMPIRES
In the months before the First World War, Richard Herncastle throws up his safe, dead-
end office job in a grim Northern mining town and joins his famous uncle’s illusion
act, touring the grand Empire Theatres of England and Scotland. This is the story of
Richard’s coming of age in the looming shadow of the terrible conflict which will see
