Department of Petroleum Engineering, FIPI IIT(ISM) and SPE IIT(ISM) Student Chapter in association
with Halliburton Bangalore Section is pleased to announce that a workshop on application of data
science in oil and gas industry, which will be conducted during February 3-5, 2020 at IIT(ISM),
Dhanbad.
Workshop outline

• Fundamentals of ML
• Application of ML in oil industry
• Current challenge in oil exploration
• Hands on exercise in addition to Hackathon

About the Lecturer


Shri Samiran Roy is a Geophysicist by training and currently working as Principal Consultant – Data
Science, in Halliburton Big Data Centre of Excellence. He has more than 13 years of working experience
in the oil and gas industry. He pursued his masters in science and technology (M.Sc. Tech) in applied
Geophysics from IIT(ISM), Dhanbad and graduated from Calcutta University with Physics Honours. He
started his career as an exploration geophysicist and was responsible for well location releases for an
exploration block in deep water Krishna-Godavari basin. He is working with Halliburton since 2013,
and, worked with different geological setups across the globe. He provided training or conducted
workshops to major global operators in Malaysia, Algeria, India, Bangladesh, USA, Oman, Indonesia,
Japan and Australia. He also mentored a significant number of young professionals both in Indian and
abroad. Samiran has experience in software research and development for the end-to-end oil and gas
solution. His specialization is in velocity modelling, pre-stack seismic analysis, AI based exploration
activity designing. Samiran has represented his organization in different forum and to the ministry for
overall business development.
Who Should Attend?
This workshop is for the exclusive benefit of the Undergraduate, Postgraduate, PhD students who are
pursuing a degree related to the oil and gas sector and who wish to keep themselves updated regarding
the recent developments in the industry. FIPI IIT(ISM) and SPE IIT (ISM) Student Chapter along with
the Department of Petroleum Engineering, IIT (ISM) are sponsoring the Workshop and it is entirely
free of cost for all students. For registering please go through this brochure and fill up the google form
