The research has been conducted by means of telephonic interviews and secondary
research.
About the company:
La Carne Cuts, owned by Primo Foods, is one of India's fastest growing, food processing
businesses. They have a factory in Manesar, Gurgaon the world’s best machinery from
Germany and Australia to ensure top-notch quality. The company is a major supplier to the
HoReCa sector delivering all over India and is also able to export to foreign parties.
Type of Market:
Institutional Sales (HoReCa sector)
Customer Segmentation:
The major segmentation factor for the company is “Size”.
The company primarily deals with Premium restaurants(4 & 5 star only) & caterers.
Recently, they have also started dealing with QSR chains(only the ones with large number of
outlets)
Some primary clients for them are the Taj Group of Hotels and ITC hotels, wherein they
have tied up with the entire group for products to be supplied to majorly all their hotels
across India, via distributors.

Suppliers:
The company sources its raw materials like raw flesh from both domestic and international
suppliers and it decides the vendors on various parameters like Quality and Delivery Time.
Quality Control Unit:
The Quality Control Unit checks the consignment by random sampling. Two major
parameters are checked by the unit:
(1) Adherence to the specifications
(2) Temperature of the materials. (As this is a perishable product)
Packing Unit:
After the quality checked, the final products are sent to the packing unit, where they are
packed in specific packing materials so ensure freshness and quality. The packing material
depends upon the kind of storage required. For example, a highly frozen product requires
higher micron packaging.
Production Forecasting:
The entire production and inventory management is done in synchronization with the sales
teams. The Sales teams have to submit their sales projections for the next month at least 7
days prior, and also keep the production team informed about unusual demand/slump.
Purchase Department:
The company has a centralized purchase department with 1 purchase manager and the 2
major goals of the department are:
(1) Improve quality of raw materials
(2) Achieve lowest total cost
The purchase orders are placed as per the demand orders.
Risk:
The major type of risk faced by the company is Financial Risk, which arises due to the
perishable nature of the product.
Innovation:
The company has a separate production team which only focuses on bringing in new
varieties and flavours.
Pricing:
The company follows a simple approach of Cost plus Pricing.
As a general rule, the company keeps sells at cost+25%(20+5). Here, the company keeps 5%
for contingencies. This price is called ex-factory price, which is what the distributor pays.
An interesting thing to note here is that, the company also charges only 5% margin for some
very big clients, which help them get the volumes. This not only helps them in reducing the
costs but also adds to their brand image, which they leverage to get new clients.
Contracts:
Generally, the company and the customer get into a contract of 1 year, which starts from
April 1 to 31st March next year. The price is fixed at the beginning of the contract and the
company has to supply it at the rate itself, despite any chances in the procurement costs
during the year.
Exchange:
The company has different relationships with different customers. Some customers are
purely on a Transactional exchange basis. However, for majority of them, they follow Value
Added Exchanges. They try to customized their products according to the specifications of
big volume clients.
Marketing Material:
The major marketing material used by the company is a Product catalogue, which talks
about the brand, the products, pack size, etc.
The company also has a price list which it sends to its sales people and also its distributors.
Apart from that, a few brochures also mention the way the products could be used by the
restaurants and what sort of machines to use, which is quite informative.

team ensures strong and stringent alliances with approved suppliers of raw
meats, spices and other ingredients used in our products. Our customers get
the benefit of a comprehensive QA program managed by our in-house team
that helps in maintaining HACCP, FASSAI, ISO, Export licensing
accreditations to support optimum food safety.
Manufacturing Capability
We have built manufacturing capability at Manesar, meeting international
standards. All plant and machinery has been imported from Germany and
Australia. This include bowl clutters, mincers, dicers as well as large
automated smoked house. Precision finishing and packing machines allow us
to pack all meat as portions, whole piramal/diced cubes and in various
thickness of shaving and sliced meats in stack or shingles.
