Abstract

Telenor Pakistan is 100% owned by the Telenor Group, an international provider of high
quality voice, data, content and communication services in 11 markets across Europe and
Asia. Telenor Group is among the largest mobile operators in the world with 140 million
mobile subscriptions and a workforce of approximately 30,000. We conducted interview
with a HR Generalist- Corporate Function at Telenor head office Islamabad Pakistan. She
told us about HR activities and functions conducted at Telenor. We are very grateful to
SIR ____ for giving us such opportunity to get exposure to the market and conducting
interview for HR professionals at other organizations.

We conducted interview with a HR Generalist- Corporate Function at Telenor
Pakistan.

HISTORY: Telenor Pakistan is 100% owned by the Telenor Group, an international


provider of high quality voice, data, content and communication services in 11 markets
across Europe and Asia. Telenor Group is among the largest mobile operators in the
world with 140 million mobile subscriptions and a workforce of approximately 30,000.
Today Telenor Pakistan has grown to become a leading mobile communications services
provider of the country. Telenor Pakistan's corporate headquarters are in Islamabad, with
regional offices in Karachi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Hyderabad and Peshawar.

INTRODUCTION: The person who gives us interview is NAFISA a HR Generalist-


Corporate Function. Her Area of specialization is Training and development, Rewards
and Hiring. Her job is to do Recruitment, Hiring, Retention, Development, Motivate
employees, Try to explore their personal interest at work, providing opportunities.

VISION: There vision is simple: We're here to help.

ABOUT HR: At early there is nothing in HR. Personal or Administration is there and all
the things were done by Admin Managers. But from last 9-10 years HR process and
functions separated. Now every organization has different goals to perform as in past 5
years that thing is not there. Then she told about OD i.e. Organization Development.
Managers of OD department are HR Head, Remuneration manager, IR Manger for
factory, HR VPs directly reported to head, Recruiting manager, and OD manager.

ENVIRONMENT: Telenor Pakistan has taken and continues to implement a number of


environmentally-friendly initiatives. To remove hesitation of employees on first day they
give warm welcome to employee and by telling them about organization and their
responsibilities. To remove hesitation of interns at organization they offer different
internship programs. There is boarding of interns assigning them their tasks give them
laptops and they start their work according to their responsibilities assign to them.

RECRUITMENT: She said about recruitment that Establishes recruiting requires


organization plans and objectives. Develop and oversee the implementation of all
necessary systems and procedures to ensure that the recruitment and selection process
operates effectively. Keep up to date with the latest developments in the field of

recruitment and selection. Undertake any necessary market research to ensure that they
operate effectively. Keep up to date with the latest developments in the field of
recruitment and selection. Undertake any necessary market research to ensure that the
service provided is up to date and appropriate o organization needs. Maintain up-to-date
and accurate lists of jobs and vacancies within the organization to be able to identify
staffing needs.

HIRING CRITERIA: Telenor hire on internal reference or from external resource hire
from both resources There is career job opportunity blog on website willing people send
their applications hey short list both and hire. Recently they hire from internal reference
because he meet the eligible criteria.

TRAINING: Recently they organize training program for Finance department. They
recommend the employees to get training

EMPLOYEE NEED: Then she tells about that how they assess their employee needs
first they have review meeting the see what are the goals of employee’s .Give 5 goals to
every employee. Evaluate them from their performance. Retaining the employees except
low performers. Line manager know everything about them. Train them according to the
need. She tells us her own experience about training that she wants to get training of MS
Excel. She identifies her need and gets training for MS Excel. They identify need and
discuss with Development Department Every year there are T&D Programs.

RESOLVE PROBLEMS: Then she tells about how they solve the problem. Solution
depends upon the intensity of problem. She face the problem of AM position Problem
was that AM position was divided into two posts (Executive Officer) one was filled and
other was vacant. They want to hire executive officer and that post was vacant. Someone
told that it was already filled. Then she checked the mail and come up with that when
post was split one was filled and one was deleted by VP then she said get approval from
CEO and then we hire someone at this post.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAMS: They hire interns Internship announced on website. There


is online internship test. If qualified then they are interviewed Short list and select them.

ADVICE BY HER: She recommended us that Try to overcome stage fear. Try to
overcome presentation fear Identify need development and weakness of mind Overcome
the fear that you may say something wrong or someone may laugh on you.
