We wish express our thanks Vidya Pratishthan College,

Baramati for allowing us to take the project on “The Online
Library Management System”
We are thankful to our Principle – Dr. Bharat Shinde Sir
who has given us the permission for this project work.
We would also like to give our sincere gratitude to our
guide - Prof. Ahire U.B and guidance to develop the system
“The Online Library Management System”. Lastly, we would
also like to thanks to all the staff members of Computer Science
Department and our company guide and all the friends who
have always been a great source of inspiration for us.
We are especially thankful to who have helped us directly
indirectly in completion of this work successfully.
Introduction About
Organization

The main aim of online library management system is to

keep the book in the proper manner with its complete details.
Everything is managed from the database. In this system
process of maintaining data about books, transaction, student.
The user need not visit the library every time to find an item
from his/her own PC/Laptop. This project of online library
management system gives us complete information about
library. We can enter records of new books and retrieve details
of book available in library. We can purchase or download
books to student and maintain their records and can also check
how many books are purchased and stock available in library. In
this project we can maintain records of user and book.
Online Library Management System is an application
which refers to library systems which are generally small or
medium in size. It is used by librarian to manage the library
using a computerized system where he/she can record various
transactions like issue of books, return of books, addition of new
books, addition of new students etc.
Books and student maintenance modules are also included
in this system which would keep track of the students using the
library and also a detailed description about the books a library
contains. With this computerized system there will be no loss of
book record or member record which generally happens when a
non-computerized system is used.
The goal of this project is to provide simplicity as well as
security and efficiency to the management. Its main objective is
to provide all the functions of the library along with support of
barcode reader. The contemporary system stores the database
information on a local computer, which can’t be updated and
accessed on a remote computer or a computer in the library
network.
Problem Definition

 The library management system implements databases to

make the existing system more efficient.
 It is difficult to catch defaulter in a usual library system,
but library management system solves this problem by
providing message to the administrator about the fine to
be paid and books to be returned.
 When a book is to be borrowed, its barcode is read and is
fed to library management system.
 When the administrator to issue a book to a member,
library management system checks whether the member
is allowed to borrow books respective to his limit.
 Library management system also checks whether the book
to be issued is reference book or not. If the book is
reference book, it cannot be issued.
 If the book has no restrictions it is issued to the member,
and also the member details is with the books that he has
just borrowed.
 Any member can search a book with its title name, or
author name.
Existing System

 In the existing system the transaction of the books are

recorded in a local computer and the information cannot
be accessed by other member of the library.
 In some library the transaction are recorded in a register,
and then later they are fed into the computer by a data
entry operator.
 This type of maintenance usually causes Basically there is
no security i.e. any person can perform transaction other
than the administrator.
 some errors due to delay in updation and mistakes during
large data entry.
Need for Computerization

 By using computerized system we can save our time.

 This is useful to students.
 We can purchase book using cash on delivery or download
book pdf.
 We can purchase book using credit card
 User friendly.
 We will get all information about books and students who
are purchases books.
Scope of the proposed system

 Each user has their own login.

 We provide the list of books the user can purchase.
 To reduce user searching time.
 A page for all user to view books purchased by them,
individual book of price.
 Our system provide user friendly environment.
 Our systems provide facility to user enquiry.
Objectives of Proposed System

 In proposed system provide searching facilities based on

various factor such as book name, book number, author
name.
 In proposed system after login into their accounts students
can request book as well as provide suggestion to improve
library.
 It manages information about book and student.
 Less paper work.
 In library management system processing of transaction is
done with the help of computer.
 Thought library management system updating to the data
base is very efficient and instantly done.
 It provides a guest login for the member to view details
about the available books and allows them to search for a
particular book.
 Library management system provides security.
Fact Finding Techniques

To study the system we need to collect the fact used entity.

There are different fact finding techniques available to find fact
of system.

 Interview
 Questionnaires
 Record Review
 Observation

Interview :
This technique is used to collect information form
individual or from groups. Analyst should interview the
respondents who are related with system under study. In this
method the interview sits face to face with the respondent and
records his/her responses. So for library system we interviewed
the respondents to get to know that type of interface does user
fill feasible for his/her operations.
Questionnaires :
A questionnaire is perform containing a sequence of
questions to elicit information mostly from a large no of
persons. Drafting a questionnaires requires utmost skills. The
question must be well organized from the point of view of the
respondent and formulated in such a manner to provide the
data as far as possible in the desired form.

Record Review :
Information related with the system may be present in
the form of record like books, magazines, newspapers,
historical documents, letters, journals, manuals, govt.
publications, etc. this kind of record review provide very
valuable information analyst about the system, organization
and various procedures and rules.
Record review may be perform at the beginning of the
study to collect the appropriate initial information or at the end
of study to compare the actual operation perform. We also
perform record review for our system through social medias
like the internet, newspapers, computer oriented magazines
like digit, etc.
Observations :
If information is not collected from the other fact
finding method then observation method is used. On this
method analysts observe the flow of the documents; way the
process is carried out steps followed the person involved.
Observation method is most useful when the analyst need
to be actually observe how observation documentation handle
how processed are carried out and whether specified steps are
actually followed or not observation provide close view of the
working procedure use in the organization and from the
document.
Feasibility Study

In feasibility study we evaluate cost and benefits of

proposed system and the basis of study the decision is taken
whether to postpone the project or to cancel the project.

Technical Feasibility :

In technical feasibility we determine available

hardware, software and computer with its configuration
i.e. printer, RAM, HD, database, O.S. and programming
language etc. In existing system we have required
computer with configuration printer, O.S. are already exist
and for the required software organization is ready to
provide that software. Therefore our system is technically
feasible.
Operational Feasibility :

It find out whether the new technology or proposed

system will be suitable using three types of aspects,
a) Human
b) Organizational
c) Political
Proposed system is user friendly and user can
easily handles this system fluently. User manual is also
provide so our system is operationally feasible

Economical Feasibility :

Economical feasibility fiends total cost and all the

benefits as well as expected saving of the proposed
system.
In our system we need electricity backup and
organization is ready to provide that backup. In existing
system many person are needed to handle it, put in
proposed system only one user is sufficient to handle
system. There in our system one person’s salary is save fo
each month.
Therefore our system is economically feasible.
Hardware And Software
Requirement

Hardware Requirement :

i. Processor: Intel core i3

ii. Hard Disk: 4 GB or above
iii. RAM: 1 GB or above

Software Requirement :

i. Wamp server
ii. Front end:php
iii. Back end:my sql
