7 An air refrigerator working on Bell Coleman cycle takes in air at 1 bar and at
a temperature of 10 0C. The air is compressed to 5 bar abs. The same is
cooled to 25 0C in the cooler before expanding in the expansion cylinder to
cold chamber pressure of 1 bar. The compression and expansion laws
followed are pv1.35 = C and pv1.3 = C respectively. Determine COP of the
plant and net refrigeration effect per kg of air. Take Cp = 1.009 kJ/kg K and
R = 0.287 kJ/kg K for air.

8 A R22 vapour compression refrigeration system operates between -10 0C

and 45 0C. The refrigerant is subcooled by 5 0C before entering the
expansion valve and vapour is superheated by 5 0C before entering the
compressor. By using Pressure-enthalpy chart, Calculate
(i) Refrigeration effect per kg
(ii) Mass flow rate of refrigerant for 5 TR capacity
COP of the system

9 A simple air cooled system is used for an airplane having 10 TR of air

conditioning system. The atmospheric pressure is 0.9 bar and temperature is
10 ⁰C. Pressure is increased to 1.013 bar due to ramming. Air is further
compressed up to 3.5 bar in compressor. The temperature of air is reduced
by 50 ⁰C while passing through heat exchanger. The aircraft is maintained at
1.01 bar and 25 ⁰C. Calculate power required to take load of air conditioning
system and COP of the system. Assume isentropic compression and
expansion process.

10 The following data refer to a two stage compression ammonia refrigerating

system with water intercooler.

Condenser pressure= 14 bar; Evaporator pressure = 2 bar; Intercooler

pressure = 5 bar; Load on Evaporator = 2TR.
