Course Description:
This course provides an introduction to the study of tourism from its growth and development, the major players that comprise and influence the tourism
industry and how they relate to each other as well as the different economic, environmental, social and political impacts of tourism.

Course Objectives:
By the end of this course the students are expected to:
 Understand and explain the basic definition of tourism
 Identify the major participants and forces shaping the tourism industry
 Identify the three major foundations for understanding tourism motivation
 Explain the importance of segmenting the tourism market
 Explain the importance of intermediaries in the distribution of tourism services
 Explain the importance of transportation to the tourism industry
 Identify and describe the major components of the tourism transportation system
 Identify and describe the major classifications of accommodations and its importance to the tourism industry
 Describe how food and beverages can add value to other tourism services
 Describe the major classifications of attractions and entertainment in the tourism industry
 Explain how destinations combine many of the suppliers in the tourism industry
 Explain service quality in tourism industry
  Explain and identify the different economic, political, social and environmental impacts of tourism
 Identify the future trends in the industry
