Name: Nisperos, Nelson Bea

Sex: Male
Age: 54
Job Title: Manpower Development Officer (DSWD-RRCY)

JOB SATISFACTION

1. Are you well compensated for your work? How so?

No because we have so many work to do and we are underpaid meaning the work we do
is not in proportion to the work of one person. It means that the work of two or three people
is being performed by one. That’s how it is in the government, we have so many focal
shifts, so many additional task aside from the terms of reference.

2. How are you treated by your supervisor? How does it make you feel?

Well, my supervisor right now is fair and supportive, she is also aware of the difficult task
that we have. She is also feeling our concerns as well so she is providing technical
assistance especially in performing our jobs but of course even she, cannot also change
the way the company runs the operation. She is also an employee just like us so damay
damay lang.

3. What is your relationship with your coworkers like? Do you get along with them?

Yes, of course I have no problems with my coworkers. I am the most senior to almost all
except one who is more senior than me so I got a lot of respect at work because of my
seniority and not only because of that, because I know how to deal with them and I know
how to get along with them. I don’t have enemies at work only the work itself is the enemy.

4. What is life outside work? Are you happy with it?

Yes I’m happier outside my work because I can spend time with my family which is the
source of everything that I do. Of course it gives me relief to the pressures of my job when
I’m home, I’m with my hobby, I can do my motorcycle rides, I can be with friends but these
things are missing already because of the many work. It’s not actually balanced. Life is
supposed to be balanced. Work, life, family is supposed to be balanced for you to be
happy and contented but it’s not.
5. How do your coworkers behave in the workplace? How does this affect or influence
you?

Hmm. I’m just like them pretty much the same as me they are also overworked. They are
also very busy but we still have some time to laugh together, because most of the time I
crack jokes. I introduce humor to our conversations that’s why it’s not always boring.

6. In what ways do you find your work challenging and interesting?

Of course when given a target for a certain period of time and you need to accomplish
that, it gives you the challenge. If the target requires an activity that is fitted to your
knowledge, skills and understanding, it becomes interesting.

7. Do you find the tasks involved in your work enjoyable?

No because most of the tasks requires energy and a lot of resources so most of the tasks
are exhausting.

8. How are your needs and expectations from your job being met?

I have some few expectations that have been met but most of them were not met. Because
it involves budget and funding like for example supplies, materials, equipment and gadgets
that you need to use. They are not automatically present so even if you propose, you
request for the issuance it’s not readily available because of lack of funds.

9. Are you confident with your own abilities and skills? Where does the confidence
come from?

Of course I am. I know what I do, I am knowledgeable in what I do, I have experience, I
have practical knowledge and I have the skills to do what I do.

ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITMENT

1. Would you be happy to spend the rest of your career in this organization you’re in?

No, because in the hierarchy of needs of Maslow, when you become happy and contented
and satisfied you need to be self-actualized. In my present job right now, I cannot be self-
actualized because there is so much dreams or goals that I could have met but I cannot
because of the situation, there are many factors. I’m just trying to survive because of the
need to have a job, to have an income so I think I can stick with my job for the rest of my
retirement because right now at my age transferring in another company would not be
wise, you’ll start all over again.
2. Do you feel as if the organization’s problems are your own?

I don’t feel that the problems of the organization are my own but as some point we are
affected. What happens in the organization can affect us and it is cascaded from top to
bottom so wherever you are there, you are affected. So in whatever degree of affection or
effect to you then that’s your degree also of response and reaction. For me, sometimes it
can go to that level of concern. It would seem that the company’s problems becomes my
own.

3. Would it be hard for you to leave this organization?

Yes, because in the Philippine setting, finding a job is the most difficult thing to do. Even
If you are a degree holder, even if you have skills, and experience it’s not easy to find a
job. It’s not easy to find people that will trust you immediately. It will be very hard. It’s a
complete paradigm shift. People are afraid of leaving their comfort zone most of the time.
But if you are adventurous, you can, maybe if I’m still single I can do it but I’m no longer
single. I have mouths to feed, I have bills to pay so it would be difficult for me to leave right
now.

4. Would you feel guilty if you leave the organization?

No, if there’s another organization that would absorb me and pay me even just the same
pay that I receive from my current organization I would be happy to transfer.

5. Do you feel as if this organization deserves your loyalty?

No they don’t deserve it. Why? Because they have not … they acknowledge it in some
processes that is superficial, you know. But in a deeper sense your loyalty is not
acknowledged with the company because if the company recognizes your efforts, your
abilities and everything, it will reflect on how promote you, they put you into a job that suits
your abilities, they shouldn’t neglect your career progression.
