Learning Objectives
After completing this section, you will be able to:
Log on and off Acute Care Gateway
How to use the Suspend Session feature
Change your password
Access the On-Line Help
Set user preferences
Navigating and screen layout
When logging on to Allscripts/SCM Gateway, the access to patients and functions are controlled by the
security and configuration related to your organizational role. This system controls what you may do
within the system and whose charts you may select for viewing. Each time you log on to the system, the
patient charts that is accessed and any changes made to the patient data are logged to an audit file.
Log On
To log on to SCM, complete the following:
3. The message screen is used to communicate anything important to you. It’s a good idea to get
into habit of checking this every time you log in.
4. Click LOGIN
Page 6
Log Off
When you shut down Sunrise Gateway, all the applications hosted in Gateway automatically shut down,
and Gateway is logged off.
To log off SCM, click the Shutdown Allscripts Gateway icon (in the upper right corner).
Allscripts Gateway closes immediately, regardless of which function you are in, unless there is unsaved
data, which may be indicated by a prompt.
NOTES: Do not use the X in the upper right corner as this may not give you a “clean” logoff
Suspend/Unsuspend Session
Suspending a session allows you to temporarily suspend your logged on session if you are in the middle
of an action and you get called away and want to return to the screen where you left off.
To suspend an active session, click the Suspend Allscripts Gateway icon (in the upper right
corner).
Your suspended session displays on the Task Bar at the bottom of the screen.
Page 7
1. Click the suspended session icon on the Task Bar.
Be sure to save your work and log off before you leave a workstation!

2. ED Registration
Learning Objectives
After completing this lesson, you will be able to:
Understand the patient ED registration process
The process discussed in this section pertains to the activities performed by Registration. However, ED
staff will need to understand this process and how ED patients will display on either the ED (ALL) or
Triage/Waiting location views.
The patient is assigned to the Emergency department to the location of either Waiting Room or
Triage.
If the patient presents to the ED with a situation requiring Triage and the patient is only able to
provide minimal or no information, the patient is registered via Quick Registration and
immediately sent to Triage.
Once the patient has been registered, the ED Charge Nurse will assign the appropriate ED
room/bed location.
To assign an ED location:
1. From the View drop-down, select Triage/Waiting.
Page 12
4. Select an ED bed location.
5. Click Refresh.
3. ED Status Board
Learning Objectives
After completing this section, you will be able to:
Page 13

4. Patient Lists Tab
Learning Objectives
This section introduces the use of the Patient List tab for accessing clinical chart information for
inpatients.
Toggle between the ED Status Board and the SCM Patient List
Use the SCM Find Patient feature to locate an admitted patient to access chart information
Create a Temporary List
Create a Personal List
If you have security access to the Inbox, you will need to click the Toggle drop-down and select Patient
List.
Page 31
Using the Patient List
When you toggle to the Patient List, you are now displaying the list of patients in the Inpatient areas.
Note: You may or may not have pre-configured lists that display by default; however, you have the ability
to create your own custom lists.
Personal List
When a patient has been admitted from the ED, there may be a timeframe in which you need to follow-up
on a patient(s) and/or complete chart information after the patient has been removed from the ED Status
Board.
Once the patient has been removed from the ED Status Board, you will need to use the above mentioned
Find Patient feature. However, if you need to return the patient for any reason, you can save the patient
to a Personal List and avoid having to ‘find’ the patient each time
1. Ensure the previously created Temporary List is displayed with the patient highlighted.
3. For this example, click the New List Name radio button. In the free-text field, type the name
of your list.
Page 32
4. Click OK. The patient is added to the created list. Your new list displays as one of the
choices in the Current List preceded by an asterisk (*).
5. Nursing Documentation
Learning Objectives
After completing this section, you will be able to:
Clinical documentation is the method by which clinicians’ record and communicate information specific to
patient diagnosis, treatment and progress.
Sunrise Clinical Manager documentation supports the care providers’ ability to quickly and accurately
document essential facts about all aspects of patient care.
Procedures
Treatments with extensive text
Any patient event or treatment that is considered a one-time occurrence or has an unpredictable
frequency
Access Documents
To access documents using the Quick Launch function:
1. With your assigned patient selected, click the Quick Launch Docs button at the bottom of the ED
Status Board. The documents that you use on a regular basis have been configured here for quick
access.
You can also access your documents by clicking the Enter Documents button on the main
toolbar.
Page 33
On the Document Entry Worksheet, you will need to search to find the document you want to
access.
Page 34
6. Inactive Patients
Learning Objectives
After completing this section, you will be able to:
Understand the purpose and use of the Inactive Patients view.
Remove a patient from the ED Status Board view to the Inactive Patients view.
Return a patient from the Inactive Patients view to the ED Status Board view.
You can move a patient from the Active Patients view in the Status Board to the Inactive Patients view
without canceling or discharging the patient visit.
Use the Inactive Patients view to see patients who were removed from the Status Board or to correct an
accidental removal of a patient from the Status Board.
The patient has been discharged from the ED and all documentation has been completed.
Note ► Patients remain on the Inactive Patients view for 72 hours after
discharge to allow users to access the patient’s chart after they have
left the ED.
Page 35
Note ► After 72 hours, the ED visit is ‘Closed/Discharged’ from the Inactive
view.
IMPORTANT! If an ED patient is admitted as inpatient and has been assigned an inpatient bed
assignment and you remove the patient from the active Status Board view, the patient WILL NOT be
placed on the Inactive Patients view. You will need to call Registration to have the patient placed back in
the ED Department if removed in error.
Note ► The system will not allow you to remove a patient from the ED Status Board
that has an Incomplete registration.
If a patient was moved to the Inactive Patients view in error, you have the ability to ‘return’ the patient to
the active Status Board view.
Page 36
To remove a patient from the inactive view:
The Return Patient confirmation window displays with the defaulted previous ED location.
Optionally, change the location, if needed.
Page 37
6. Printing Reports
There will be various customized reports that will be available for printing for required workflow purposes
and/or during downtime. Each chart tab has reports specific to the data that it contains, such as Patient
List Reports, Orders Reports, etc. In addition, there are other reports such as ED Reports,
Registration Reports, etc.
All reports are accessed by clicking the Print Reports button on the main toolbar which can be accessed
from any chart tab that you are currently viewing. Note: Whatever chart tab you are currently viewing,
you will default to that tabs reports. However, you can change the Report Category to access other
reports.
3. Click Print to print to a local printer or click Preview to print to your desktop for viewing prior to
printing (recommended option prior to printing).
Note: Some reports will require you to complete print detail options prior to printing.
