II. Before you put on that skeleton costume and go door-to-door asking for candy, take a minute to reflect on
this tradition. Halloween is believed to have come from an ancient Celtic festival dating back some 2,000
years. November 1st was the Celtic New Year and marked the end of summer to the Celts. They celebrated
on its eve by wearing costumes made of animal skins and dancing around bonfires. Over the next two
millennia, this primitive celebration grew to be the candy fuelled costume ball that we know today.

The technologies through which this communication takes place include a variety of outlets. Broadcast
media transmit information electronically via films, radio, recorded music, or television. Digital media
comprises both Internet and mobile mass communication. Internet media comprise such services as
email, social media sites, websites, and Internet-based radio and television. Outdoor media transmit
information via such media as flying billboards (signs in tow of airplanes); notices placed inside and
outside buses, commercial buildings, shops, sports stadiums, subway cars, or trains. Print media
transmit information via physical objects, such as books, comics, magazines, newspapers, or
pamphlets. Event organizing and public speaking can also be considered forms of mass media.
The organizations that control these technologies, such as movie studios, publishing companies, and
radio and television stations, are also known as the mass media.
IV. Weapons at parties and on the street may be commonplace, but what about at school? Arlington’s
Wakefield High School, the pupils say, is less violent now than it was a few years ago. A strong security

this new Garlic Dinner Wine is in Gilroy, California, where everybody is serious about garlic. Gilroy is the garlic

representatives say that orders are pouring in for the five-dollars-a-bottle wine and that the company is looking at
prospects for national and international marketing campaigns.

VI. Being a clown isn’t all fun and games. Rodeo clowns expose themselves to great danger every time
they perform. When cowboys dismount or bulls throw them off, rodeo clowns jump in front of the bulls
and move wildly to get their attention. In this way rodeo clowns provide an alternate target, and in
doing so they protect the rider. Of course, this is a very dangerous thing to do. So, you see, sometimes
clowning around can be serious business.
VII. Some people think that some holidays celebrating love are nothing but clever plans made by
marketers to get consumers to buy candy, flowers, and stuffed animals, but who cares? In America, two
love themed holidays are celebrated: Valentine’s Day and Sweetest Day. Valentine’s Day is celebrated
in the winter, while Sweetest Day is celebrated in the autumn. Valentine’s Day is more focused on
bringing lovers together, while Sweetest Day is for all of the friends, relatives, and associates whose
kindness we’ve enjoyed. Both occasions, however, are great times to remember what’s most important:
the people about whom we care.

expression. This is not a simple matter of style or eloquence, for even the finest speakers and writers,

reason, many people use poetry and music instead of prose. These two forms of communication carry
subtle yet powerful meanings that cannot be expressed with ordinary words.

There are so many ways to put peanuts to good use!
X. A daily newspaper is printed every day, sometimes with the exception of Sundays and occasionally
Saturdays, (and some major holidays) and often of some national holidays. Saturday and, where they
exist, Sunday editions of daily newspapers tend to be larger, include more specialized sections (e.g., on
arts, films, entertainment) and advertising inserts, and cost more. Typically, the majority of these
newspapers’ staff members work Monday to Friday, so the Sunday and Monday editions largely
depend on content done in advance or content that is syndicated. Most daily newspapers are sold in the
