CALENDAR DESCRIPTION:
This course is an admission requirement for the Practical Nurse program. This course gives an overview
of the structure and function of eleven body systems. It also encourages various health promotion
strategies that work toward the optimal functioning of these systems.
In addition to the policies listed in this document, some ‘common sense’ behaviours are requested, such
as students muting cell phones, attending lectures on-time, and refraining from chatting at
inappropriate times during lectures.

ACCESSIBILITY SERVICES:
Students who require academic accommodations as a result of a disability should advise both the
instructor and Accessibility Services. Students requiring support should familiarize themselves with the

EVALUATION POLICIES:
Unit tests cover each segment of the course as it is completed and are not cumulative. Unit tests
must be taken on the posted dates (see timetable below); exceptions will only be considered in
extraordinary cases with proper documentation such as a doctor or counsellor’s note. In such
cases, the instructor’s discretion will dictate whether an early or late unit test is allowed, or
whether the remaining unit tests will make up for the missed unit test.
The unit tests will consist of questions based on topics covered in the lectures. Note: this does not
indicate that all material from each topic will be covered in-depth in the lectures; students are
expected to read the corresponding sections of the text book to ensure they are familiar with each
topic. Regularly posted quizzes completed on the course Moodle will help to keep students on-
pace during each unit. Quizzes will close one week after their content in the course is finished; no
late submissions will be accepted without the documentation for extraordinary circumstances
listed above.
