Comparing VMFS5 and VMFS6

VMFS5 and VMFS6 are both capable of hosting ESXi 6.5 and later hosts, but only VMFS6 can host 6.0 and earlier hosts. They have identical limits of 512 datastores per host and support of 512n storage. VMFS6 introduces automatic space reclamation, space reclamation from guest OS, and support for 4Kn storage devices. Both support large virtual disks, small files, ATS locking, 1MB block size, vMotion, and high availability features.
