EE6204

This document contains a mid-semester examination for a power systems engineering course. It includes 6 questions related to transmission line analysis, short circuit calculations, and fault analysis. Some key details: - Question 1 involves calculating input impedance, current, and voltage for a transmission line of given parameters terminated in a matched load. - Question 2 derives expressions for input impedance and average input power of a transmission line connected to an arbitrary load. - Question 3 explains the concept of standing wave ratio and requires calculating frequency and load impedance given other transmission line parameter values. - Question 4 involves a calculation of short circuit kVA for a power system with multiple generating sections connected

1 A transmission line is 40m long and has Vg  150 0 , Z 0  30  j 60  , VL  5  480 V . If 5

the line is matched to the load. Calculate (a) the input impedance Z in (b) the sending end
current I in and voltage Vin (c) the propagation constant 

2 A transmission line of length l , characterized by  and Z 0 , connected to a load Z l . Derive 5
