What will you learn from this course?

• On the theoretical side, you will learn the basic concepts in the
field of semantics and pragmatics, especially those that are
related to speech therapy, in particular autism spectrum
disorders.
• The first part of the course covers various topics in the field of
semantics, such as referring expressions, figurative language,
mental state terms in connection with the theory of mind.
• The second part of the course focuses on pragmatics,
covering topics such as presuppositions.
• Using these concepts, you will learn how to conduct a small-
scale research in clinical linguistics focusing on semantics and
pragmatics. In these ways, we hope to strike some balance
between the theoretical and the applied/practical aspects of
the inquiry.
