1. Introduction

This document describes the technical requirements of MV transformer which is connected with the SG250HX
inverters.

This document is intended to be used by the specific addressees; No part of this document may be reproduced or
distributed in any form or by any means, without the prior written permission of Sungrow Power Supply Co., Ltd.

2. Technical Properties of SG250HX

3. SG250HX Transformer Requirements

The MV Transformer is not within the scope of supply of Sungrow.

The following requirements shall be followed when choosing the MV transformer.

1) The transformer must be suitable for operating with a pulsed inverter

SG250HX_Transformer Requirements

In case the Anti-PID solution (potential induced degradation) is used, the transformer’s secondary windings shall be

able to handle , which must also be considered when selecting the cables and devices
connected with the LV side of the transformer, including the SPDs, any meters, etc.

2) The output voltage of the SG250HV is 800Vac L-L (680~880Vac), 50Hz or 60Hz.The voltage at the MV side
shall be in line with the MV grid voltage at the connection point. A transformer with tap changer is preferred.

3) Transformer capacity shall be in line with the inverter’s max. output power corresponding to the ambient
temperature.

4) A two-winding (one for LV, one for the MV side) transformer is to be used, or three winding (two LV and one MV
side) transformer is to be used.

5) Transformers with different vector grounds can be used, such as Δ-Y, Y-Δ, Y-Y, Δ-Δ and if using three winding
transformer (two LV and one HV) then DY11Y11, YD11D11 can be used. For the Y connection, the neutral point
shall be treated according to the local grid code.

6) Short-circuit impedance Z(%) of two winding transformer shall comply with related standards. For example,
recognized minimum short-circuit impedance of 2500kVA/33kV/0.6kV in IEC60076-5 is 6% with tolerance of +/-
10%.

7) LV -LV impedance for any multiple winding transformers shall be 10% with tolerance of +10% and NO -ve
tolerance.

8) The transformer shall be capable of withstanding a certain level of harmonic current; the max. total harmonic
current is 3% of fundamental current at nominal power.

9) The transformer shall be capable of withstanding a certain level of DC component; 0.5% of fundamental current
at nominal power.

10) The transformer shall be capable of withstanding a certain degree of phase imbalance; 5% of the current at
nominal power.

11) The LV winding of the MV transformer shall be designed for a voltage gradient dU/dt of up to 500 V/μ s to ground.

12) Good shielding and isolation between LV and MV windings is required.

13) The transformer shall be grounded at only one point, and the grounding of the transformer must be secure.

14) The insulation class shall be at least F for a dry-type transformer and A for oil-type.
Insulation class A E B F H N C

Max. temp. (℃) 105 120 130 155 180 200 220

Temp. rise of winding (K) 60 75 80 100 125 135 150

15) The load weighed efficiency shall be compliant with the latest local requirements.

16) The local environment (temperature, humidity, altitude, air etc.) shall be taken into consideration.

17) The temperature rise and min. electric clearance shall be taken into consideration, especially when the altitude
is over 1000m.

18) The local specific grid frequency & standards shall be respected.
