Personal Statement

Having enjoyed a long and satisfying IT career, I have gradually developed interest in

business matters by acknowledging the importance of business knowledge in the IT sector. I feel

that with added knowledge of my business scope, I would greatly enhance my competency and

abilities in handling the diverse demands of the IT labor market. With this in mind, I have felt the

need to advance my knowledge in business and leadership by enrolling for an MBA course in

Woodbury University. My deep interest in Woodbury University was prompted by its four

distinct characteristics of: engaging students, great teaching, a vibrant community and its

successful outcomes.

I hold a bachelors degree in Computer Science from California State University in

Northridge, with a GPA 2.82. For the past twelve months, I have been attending the International

Institute of Business analysts, an effort intended to enhance my networking and business analysis

skills. Joining the business analysts’ school was a move driven by the urge to cope up with the

emerging business needs in the field of IT. Notably, as well, to harness my business

communication skills, two years back, I had joined Toastmasters, where I served as the president

for 18 months and helped improve my public speaking skills and those of the other members.

Particular experiences have been vital in my desire in the pursuit of an MBA degree

course. A few years ago, we had some layoffs in our company and unfortunately, a peer of mine

was laid off. After his departure, coworkers constantly consulted me on how to handle the duties

assigned initially to the laid off worker. I took on the challenge by providing the required support

where necessary, which was noticed by management and eventually, resulted to my promotion to

a management position. In this capacity, I was required to assist workers facing challenges with

their duties and coordinate operations in my department. This helped significantly in building my

management and supervisory abilities.

My personal attributes constitutes my strengths and a major reason for considering me for

the position of an MBA course enrollment with your University. Regarding this, I possess

excellent leadership skills and as well as being a much responsible individual, which is

characteristic in my experiences in the work environment. I have served in leadership positions

when working with our technical teams, a task that entailed managing and coordinating the

teams. This has helped me embrace fairness, value team work, and become firm with my

decisions at work place. More to this, I am an organized individual who is fully committed to

any engagement that I am involved in. I am also resilient to challenging tasks and hold integrity

with high regard.

I am self motivated and always adopt a positive attitude in all undertakings. My judgment

is one of my strongest attributes and is highly boosted by my proactive nature. In my career life,

I have managed to set realistic goals at personal and departmental level. I have achieved various

managerial and sales targets that have been of huge motivation to my department as whole. This

has been achieved through open consultations with the team’s members, appraisals, and

improved working conditions for workers in my department.

As such, I am seeking to further my education as a means of enhancing my career and

contributing to the academic discipline of business. In the academic aspect, if presented with the

opportunity, I plan to attain an MBA degree from Woodbury University. I understand that this

entails working together with tutors and fellow students alongside carrying out scientific research

aimed at generating knowledge that is valuable to the discipline. As for my career, I intend to

advance in the field of Data Warehousing or Supply Change Management, in which, I believe

that business expertise is essentially fundamental in these two fields.

In reference to this, it is patent that a business course from a credible institution is the

ultimate solution to challenges posed by the changing market needs in the IT sector. To

successfully and profitably run an IT firm requires not only knowledge on computers but also on

the market demands, management of labor, finances. This necessitates the search for business

expertise. With this understanding, I believe that Woodbury, being one of the most prestigious

and academically recognized private universities in the US, it is the best institutions for me to

enroll for an MBA course.

Conclusively, I believe that based on my academic ground and past experiences in the IT

business, when granted the opportunity to advance my studies by pursuing an MBA degree, I

would be of much value to the business academic discipline and the American economy. My

desires to contribute to and attain academic excellence in this field are reasons to place

confidence in my academic quest. As I look forward to building strong relationships with other

MBA students and business faculty, I urge the university acceptance team to consider my

petition for admission in Woodbury’s MBA program.
