Direction: In the following questions, a statement of assertion (A) is followed by a statement of reason
(R). mark the correct choice as :
a) Both assertion (A) and the reason (R) are true and reason (R) is the correct explanation of assertion
(A).
b) Both assertion (A) and the reason (R) are true and reason (R) is not the correct explanation of
assertion (A).
c) Assertion (A) is true, but reason (R) is false.
d) Assertion (A) is false, but reason (R) is true.

SECTION B
21. What are the three states of matter? Which one of these has a definite shape, distinct boundaries and
fixed volume? Compare the three states on the basis of compressibility.
22. Write any two differences between physical and chemical changes. Give one example in which both
physical and chemical changes take place.
23. What is meant by the term chemical formula? Write the chemical formula of calcium oxide. Calculate
its formula unit mass. (Atomic mass of Ca = 40 u, O=16 u)

and functions.
26. What precautions can you take in your school to reduce the incidence of infectious diseases?
27. Define speed and velocity. Write their SI units. A body is moving with a velocity of 15 m/s. If the
motion is uniform, what will be the velocity after 10 s?
28. Give reasons:
i) A piece of paper takes much longer to fall than a stone through the same distance, when both are
dropped simultaneously from roof.
ii) The mass is constant everywhere, but the weight keeps changing.
