INTRODUCTION

1.1 Project Context

The study entitled Andres Soriano College of Bislig (ASCB) Calendar of Activities
with Push Notification: Web-Based Application is intended for Andres Soriano
Colleges of Bislig. This system acts a medium for the OSAS office to update all the
students, faculty and staff of the institution about the schedule of the school events.

The Academic Council of Andres Soriano Colleges of Bislig creates the academic
calendar as a part of a planning phase of the institution for the academic school year.
Academic calendar serves as an information source and planning document for
students, faculty, staff and departments. The calendar includes registration dates, class
start dates, adding/changing deadlines, exam dates and more. It also includes all the
schedules of the school events like foundation day. A hardcopy of the academic
calendar will be produced to be posted on all the bulletin boards inside the school to
inform all the students, faculty and staff.

Since the academic calendar are just being posted in the bulletin boards. Some
students doesn’t notice the posted schedule or sometimes forget the dates of the specific
events specially the schedule of the important events like foundation day, departmental
day or examination date that result to insufficient preparation or worse miss the event.
The proponent believes that developing a Web based system that can remind not only
the students, but also the Admin of Andres Soriano Colleges of Bislig can solve the
problem. The Admin who is responsible in posting schedules as well as reminding all
the students about the events can used the proposed system to easily disseminate
information. The administrator of the system and can add, edit or delete schedule in
page of the program of activities calendar. It can be accessed through internet so that
the administrator can post schedule anytime.

The proposed system will be developed using HTML and CSS to design the
webpage of the administrator. PHP for server-side scripting. For the push notification
we used Firebase.

1.2 Purpose and Description of the Project

Every activity in our life depends on proper planning. The same truth holds good
when it comes to organizing different programs in schools and other institutions when
there is a scheduled time to perform various activities, it becomes easier to perform
them without much of a hassle. The Andres Soriano College of Bislig (ASCB) Calendar
of Activities with Push Notification: A Web-Based Application comes handy when you
have to deal with different tasks in a planned manner this web based calendar of
activities that may come handy to you.

Andres Soriano College of Bislig (ASCB) Calendar of Activities with Push

Notification: A Web-Based Application is a calendar that is tailored to include the
activities that are to be done on particular dates. This proposed calendar of activities
can be used by school authorities to include all the events and activities throughout
the year.

The key purpose of this calendar of activities is to organize the activity of an

institution in a planned manner. Yearly activities are pre-planned and presented in
this calendar, the chances of missing out important activities are minimized. It makes
the program more systematic and planned.

If the students want to have a visual copy of the school events they can browse
the calendar of activities in their mobile phones. They are provided with the list of
school events and the accurate date of the activities. The students will no longer miss
school activities anymore and will always be updated with any changes in the
schedules. It can less time for students and teachers to know the schedules of the
school activities rather than going to the bulletin boards to look the schedule s. The
online calendar has answered this need. It can be accessed from just about any mobile
device you carry such as phones and laptops. This is just one advantage of an online
calendar that makes it more convenient than the day planners of the past.

The students can also set up reminders on their phones to prevent them from missing
important school events and departmental meetings. This is just one more advantage of an
online calendar. Paper calendars can’t compete with this great feature. To make it even
more convenient for students they can set up the reminders in different time increments
allowing them a have more time to get to scheduled events on time. Online calendars can
be used as a way to increase student’s productivity. One example of this is time
management. Students can schedule a time to work on important projects allowing them to
complete those that are a priority or have deadlines. They can use the online calendar as a
tool to help them get done what is needed and stay on task.

The main objective of the study is to design and develop Andres Soriano College
of Bislig (ASCB) Calendar of Activities with Push Notification: A Web-Based
Application to help the school Administrator to disseminate information about the
schedules or the events in a more efficient way.

 To disseminate information about the activities of Andres Soriano College of

Bislig through online.

 To create a system that can help students manage their time with the school
activities.

 To display all event information of Andres Soriano College of Bislig.

 To make a calendar of event that is organized with schedule dates.

1.4 Scope and Limitations of the Project

Scope

This study focuses only on the proposed Andres Soriano College of Bislig (ASCB)
Calendar of Activities with Push Notification: A Web-Based, which covers and contains
the following:

1. The admin can create, edit, and update the schedules in the system.
2. The student of Andres Soriano College of Bislig can view the list of events
schedules.
3. The admin needs to login to update or edit.

4. The system can be viewed in mobile phone or personal computer.

5. The system can print out the schedules of school of activities.

6. The only registered student can accessed the system.

Limitations

1. Cannot accessed without internet connection.

2. The students cannot edit or update the event schedules of the school.

3. Only the admin can print out the schedule of activities.

4. The admin and users need to register to the system before they can view the

calendar of events.

For further understanding of the study, the proponents made use of the different
reading materials related to the Andres Soriano College of Bislig (ASCB) Calendar of

knowledge of the proponents.

These will also guide the proponents to achieve their target objectives by getting

“Calendar Wiz”

CalendarWiz officially launched its online calendar service in January of 2004. Mission is
to provide a low cost online calendar service that is easy to install, customize and use.
CalendarWiz is also used as a website calendar, website plug-in, intranet calendar and as a
stand-alone calendar.

“Google Calendar”

Google Calendar is a time-management web application and mobile app created

by Google. It allows you to create planners called Google Calendars easily and
intuitively. In a google calendar you can input your different events and plans and
have the option to get a notification about them. Anyone who would like to plan
their life electronically should look at Google Calendar.

“Desktop Calendar”

Desktop Calendar is attractive, very easy to use, and doesn't overwhelm with extras. In
fact, its chief virtue may be that it's about as close to a paper wall calendar as a Windows
calendar app can get: Just right-click any cell to record appointments, upcoming events, or
anything you might write on a wall calendar.

TECHNICAL BACKGROUND

3.1 Technicality of the Project

The researchers’ observation of the existing school events scheduling in the

bulletin boards are sometimes neglected by the students and teachers. Maybe because
some of them don’t have the time in going to the bulletin boards or they are not
interested. This proposed project will help the students and the teachers have a visual and
handy calendar of events in their mobile phones. We will use the advantage of the
technology to disseminate the information to the entire school.

Our system will use the PHP code that is interpreted by a web server with a PHP
processor module, which generates the resulting web page. The JavaScript is an
interpreted computer programming language. As part of web browsers, implementations
allow client-side scripts to interact with the user, control the browser, communicate
asynchronously, and alter the document content that is displayed. The WampServer is a
form of mini-server that can run on almost any Windows Operating System. The Sublime
Text is a proprietary cross-platform source code editor with a Python application
programming interface (API).

We also use the Adobe Photoshop for the graphics editing application popular for
its extensive number of features. The CSS for the style sheet and HTML for our main
markup language for creating web pages and other information that can be displayed in a
web browser.

 Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is a style sheet language used for describing the
presentation of a document written in a markup language like HTML.[1] CSS is a
cornerstone technology of the World Wide Web, alongside HTML and JavaScript.
 JavaScript is an interpreted computer programming language. As part of web
browsers, implementations allow client-side scripts to interact with the user, control
the browser, communicate asynchronously, and alter the document content that is
displayed. It has also become common in server-side programming, game
development and the creation of desktop applications.
 PHP is a server-side scripting language designed for web development but also
used as a general-purpose programming language. PHP code is interpreted by a
web server with a PHP processor module, which generates the resulting web page:
PHP commands can be embedded directly into an HTML source document rather
than calling an external file to process data. It has also evolved to include a
command-line interface capability and can be used in standalone graphical
applications.
 WampServer is a form of mini-server that can run on almost any Windows
Operating System. WAMP includes Apache 2, PHP 5 (SMTP ports are disabled),
and MySQL (phpMyAdmin and SQLite manager are installed to manage your
databases) preinstalled.
 Adobe Photoshop is a graphics editing application popular for its extensive
number of features. Photoshop is also, currently, the leading graphics editing
application. It helps the proponents design the layout of their system.
 Sublime Text is a proprietary cross-platform source code editor with a Python
application programming interface (API). It natively supports many programming
languages and markup languages, and functions can be added by users with plugins,
typically community-built and maintained under free-software licenses.

3.1 How the project will work

The project will help a lot in disseminating the information about the calendar of
activities and will help the teachers and students not to miss the school events. We will use
the advantage of the technology where teachers and students are fun of browsing their
mobile phones. Making the calendar of activities a handy and friendly user system.

The administrator will be the one to take full control of the system. The user page
and the administrator page will have a different view of the website. The user will just see
the list of events and they can never modify any of the information. While in the admin
page, he/she can add, edit and update event schedules.

To avoid some users to try to access the admin page, the login page will have only
3 attempts in logging in, after 3 attempts of incorrect password or username, the system
will lock for 5 minutes.

4.1 Methods to be used

The proponents used the Waterfall Model in developing the system. The Waterfall model
is the earliest SDLC approach that was used for software development. In waterfall
approach, the whole process of software development is divided into separate phases. The
outcome of the phase acts as the input for the next phase sequentially. This means that any
phase in the development process begins only if the previous phase is complete.

The first phase involves understanding what needs to design and what is its
function, purpose, etc. Here, the specifications of the input and output or the final product
are studied and marked.

System Design

The requirement specifications from the first phase are studied in this phase and
system design is prepared. System Design helps in specifying hardware and system
requirements and also helps in defining overall system architecture. The software code to
be written in the next stage is created now.

Implementation

With inputs from system design, the system is first developed in small programs
called units, which are integrated into the next phase. Each unit is developed and tested for
its functionality which is referred to as Unit Testing.

Integration and Testing

All the units developed in the implementation phase are integrated into a system
after testing of each unit. The software designed, needs to go through constant software
testing to find out if there are any flaw or errors. Testing is done so that the client does not
face any problem during the installation of the software.

Deployment of System

Once the functional and non-functional testing is done, the product is deployed in
the customer environment or released into the market.

Maintenance

This step occurs after installation and involves making modifications to the system
or an individual component to alter attributes or improve performance. These modifications
arise either due to change requests initiated by the customer, or defects uncovered during
live use of the system. The client is provided with regular maintenance and support for the
developed software.

4.4.1 Input

Information about the Andres Soriano Colleges of Bislig events are inputted by the
administrators of the system. This includes the national holidays, schedules of the exams
and other events of the Andres Soriano Colleges of Bislig.

4.4.2 Process

The process of the Andres Soriano Colleges of Bislig Calendar of Events: Web-
based: the inputted information is stored into the MySQL server. The registered users can
the view the events information through the internet.

4.4.3 Output

The output of the system is the copy of all the events of the Andres Soriano Colleges
of Bislig. The users can print their own copy using the print button.
