Instructional Guide

Activity: Business Case Study Socratic Q & A Gallery Walk

Step 1: Instructor preparation--Create Socratic questions addressing both the internal

and external aspects of the case using the Instructor Socratic Question Chart.
Step 2: Grouping--Put 3-4 students per group.
● Each group has 1-2 related Socratic questions written on a flipchart or
whiteboard.
Step 3: Focused analysis of case study--Give each student group 2-3 different colors
of post-it notes for different evidence types in the case study:

● Blue = dialogue between protagonist and stakeholders

● Orange = data/exhibits
● Yellow = observations/commentary
Each group of students needs to work together to add evidence post-it notes to
their Socratic question charts. Then form inferences & interpretations about the
evidence & how it addressed the question(s).
Step 4: Gallery Walk:

● Create a chart/graphic organizer beforehand to encourage rating of other groups.

● Have students go around to the different charts and read the evidence and
inferences while evaluating how well the group’s evidence addresses the
Socratic questions.
Step 5: Present

● Groups present their evidence and argue for their interpretations/inferences.

● Peers respond using the rating graphic organizers and provide critique and
questions.
Step 6: Follow up/Application

● Students are asked to form a hypothesis about their response to business case
based upon the different evidence that was presented & analyzed in gallery walk.
● Later ask students to focus on Socratic questions 6-7 in preparation of organizing
their outlines for their case study reports in response to the case.
