NARRATIVE REPORT ON
The Department of Health has confirmed dengue cases nationally, Dengue continues to be
a major public health problem with significant impact on children, with the reported cases many
are students and pupils coming from different schools nationwide. With this condition, school
involvement in prevention and control of dengue is necessary. Lananpin National High School
believed that this situation can be prevented through awareness campaign and should be taught in
schools.
To respond with public health problem involving schools, Dengue Awareness symposium
was conducted last March 12, 2019 to educate the students about Dengue. Speakers were Dr. Fely
B. Balgoa and Mr. Rommel J. Barcelona, they are the clinic in charge and also registered nurses.
It was held at the Covert Court of Lananpin National High School.
The symposium started with the registration of the student participants from Senior High
School and Junior High School. The symposium was opened by a doxology followed by the
Philippine National Anthem through an audio-visual presentation. The Principal IV of Lananpin
National High School, Dr. Alexander A. Patacsil opened the program and gave a very inspiring
message to all the participants. It was followed by the symposium proper.
Mr. Rommel J. Barcelona talked about the Basic Facts of Dengue Infection which he
discussed the causative agent of dengue, mode of transmission and the early signs and symptoms.
Dr. Fely B. Balgoa underscored the importance of preventive measures to deter outbreaks as
dengue. She emphasized the enhanced ‘4S strategy’ which stand for search and destroy mosquito-
breeding sites; self- protection measures; seek early consultation; and support fogging or spraying
in hotspots areas to prevent impending outbreak. She ended her talked with statement” An ounce
of prevention is better than pounds of cure and nothing is more convincing than this saying”.
The symposium was concluded with an open forum.

Noted:
One of the goals of Lananpin National High School is to keep its learners safe and healthy
thus, the D.O. No. 10 s. 2016 known as the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene in School program was
highly recognized and supported. This program orients and promotes healthy practices through
hygiene and sanitation education, provision of standards for safe water supply and appropriate
sanitation facilities.
For the goal to have healthy and safe learners to materialize a Symposium on Water,
Sanitation and Hygiene in School program was conducted last March 8, 2019 to further equipped
an understanding about the role of the learner as an integral part of the community, with a
responsibility of protecting the environment. The speakers were the two teachers of Lananpin
National High School who are also Registered nurses and considered as expert in the field of
Health education and promotion. The symposium was held at the Lananpin National High School
covered court.
The Seminar started with the registration of the participants, it was attended by Junior and
Senior High School students. The symposium was graced by a doxology followed by the
Philippine National Anthem through an audio-visual presentation. The Principal IV of Lananpin

Mr. Rommel J. Barcelona talked about the Hygiene and Sanitation. He gave emphasis on
the importance and correct hygiene and sanitation practices. He also conversed wider information
about oral hygiene and proper tooth brushing, food hygiene and water sanitation, menstrual
hygiene, environmental sanitation, and solid waste management.
The second speaker was Dr. Fely B. Balgoa, she talked about Personal and Mental Health
she focused on personal health habits and practices that promote physical, mental, social,
emotional, & moral-spiritual health. She also tackled important information about Disease
Prevention & Control she intensively stressed in her lecture that prevention and control of diseases
and disorders can be achieved through the development of good health habits and practices.
After the lecture, the speakers entertained questions from participants regarding on the
topics discussed.
To strengthen the orientation and promotion of WINs program in Lananpin National High
School, handwashing and tooth brushing activity was performed by the students per grade level
after the symposium.

thus, the Anti-Drug Awareness campaign program was highly recognized and supported. This
program aims to promote the primary prevention of drug abuse, which means preventing drug
abuse before it starts.
A Symposium on Anti- Drug Awareness was conducted last March 15, 2019 to heighten
awareness on the current situation of illegal drugs in the country and in the respective localities
and to present the unified campaign of the government to fight illegal drugs. The speakers were
the former and present Director of PDEA. The symposium was held at the Lananpin National High
School covered court.

Ret. General Jesus Fajardo discussed the topic on Drug Abuse Prevention at Home, Schools
and Community specifically the Definition of Drugs; How the Drugs Work; Dangers of Drugs;
The Meaning of Drug Abuse; Types of Drugs (which is classified to Alcohol, Cocain, Marijuana
and Heroin); He also had another topic discussed pointing to the Role of the Community in Drug
Abuse Prevention wherein he talked over the Robert Peel’s Principle of Policing; Community
Policing; 8 P’s of Community Policing; and the Critical Social Theory.
General Junar M. Rodriguez Facts about Drugs; Effects of Drug Use; Signs of Drug Abuse;
How to Refuse Drugs; Effects of Marijuana Use; Effects of Drug Use to Brain; How the Drug
Abuse Treatment can work; and What are Anti-Drugs.
After the lecture, the speakers entertained questions from participants regarding on the
topics discussed.
