Lesson 3: Describe clothes

Describir ropa

1.- Vocabulary:
Old________Viejo
New________Nuevo
Dirty________Sucio
Clean________Limpio
Loose________Holgado/Grande
Tight________Apretado/Chico

2.-Grammar: Adjective position

En inglés primero viene el adjetivo, ‘como es..’ y luego viene el objeto del
que estamos hablando (sustantivo) : The red dress
En español es lo opuesto El vestido rojo.

Adjectives come before the nouns they describe

*Adjective: Algo que describe ‘’Verde, caro, largo, feliz, lindo...’’

*Noun: Algo que puede ser descrito‘’Persona, animal, cosa o lugar’’

A long skirt.

The exception is when we use the verb ‘to be’ after the
noun

THE RED DRESS. El vestido rojo

THE DRESS IS RED. El vestido es rojo.

This exception works only with: be, become, get, seem, look, feel, sound,
smell, y taste.

Examples:

The suit is expensive

It’s an expensive suit

They are good looking women.

Note: Adjectives don’t change:

4.- Questions with What, Why and Which one

Simple questions (also known as ‘’Yes or No Questions’’, are questions

that only need a ‘Yes’ or a ‘No’ as an answer.
There we learned to use Do or Does at the start of the question.
Does she like red shoes? Yes, she does.
Do we need an orange suit? No, we don’t

Now we are going to see questions to obtain information.

‘’Information questions’’ - ‘’Wh- Questions’’
Answers will not be: Yes or No.

Example, Yes or no Question:

-Do you want that skirt?

-Yes, I do.

-Does your friend need a new suit?

-Yes, he does. He needs a new one.

As you can see, we start with Do or Does, now we’re going to start the
questions with What…?, Why…? and Which one…?.
Como pueden ver, se empieza con el Do o el Does, ahora vamos a empezar las
preguntas con ¿Que?, ¿Por que? Y ¿Cual?

For that, we will follow this formula:

WH-Q + Do/Does + Subject + base form of the Verb ///

+ Complement
What do you want? ¿Que quieres?
Why do you have my shoes?¿Por qué tienes mis zapatos?
Which one do you like?¿Cual te gusta?
