OBJECTIVES
A. Content The learners demonstrate an understanding of how gases behave on the motion and relative
Standards distances between gas particles
B. Performance The learner should be able to assemble a simple model of the relationship between electricity
Standards and magnetism.
The learners should be able :

Ask: 1.What happens to the balloon in different container after some time?
2. What properties of gases is being observed in the activity?

(ENGAGE)
D. Discussing new 1.From the video we learned that when the temperature of a gas increases, its volume
concepts and increases and vice versa. This is the principle of Charles’ Law of Gases.
practicing new Before we proceed for the calculations we need to know who is the man behind this law
skills #1 or who introduced this law? Do you have any idea?
2. Discussion of Charles Law
In Charles’ Law the Kelvin temperature of a gas is directly related to the volume where
P (Pressure) and n (amount of air) are constant.

• For two conditions, Charles’ Law is written

V1 = V2 (P and n constant)
(EXPLORE) T1 T2
• Rearranging Charles’ Law to solve for V2

T2 x V1 = V2 x T1
T1 T1
V2 = V1 x T2
T1

Refer to PowerPoint presentation.

Group Work ::Using Charle’s Law equation , solve the following problems
V1 = V2 (P and n constant)
T1 T2

Group 1. A cylinder with a movable piston contains 250cm3 ait at 10OC.If the pressure is kept
constant , at what temperature would expect the volume to be at 150 cm3?

Group 2: A tank ( not rigid) contains 2.3 L of helium gas at 250C. What will be the volume
of the tank after heating it and its content to 40OC temperature at constant pressure?

Group 3: At 200C , the volume of chlorine gas is 15dm3. Compute the resulting volume if
practicing new
skills #2 the temperature is adjusted to 318Kprovided that the pressure remains the same.
(EXPLORE) Group 4: A sample of a gas has a volume of 78.5 L at 40C.What volume will the sample of a
gas occupy accupy at 0OC when the pressure held constant?

Group 5: A sample of oxygen gas has a volume of 420 mL at a temperature of 18°C.

At what temperature (in °C) will the volume of the oxygen be 640 mL (P and n
constant)??

Group 6: A 132 ml of gas measured at 38°C.If the pressure remains constant m what
will be the volume of the gas at 10°C?
