Dear Traveler,
Limassol with its unique fusion of influences is a fascinating and exciting destination. It is a land where
the traditional and modern co-exist offering desirable contemporary facilities yet still extending the
local warm hospitality which characterises Cyprus.
The Limassol Tourism Development and Promotion Company Ltd has been created to promote the further
development of the basic and touristic infrastructure of the Limassol region and market the area as
the distinct cosmopolitan seaside destination it is. Its unique identity is based on its rich history and
culture, its inviting characteristics and its convenient location, both within the island and on the map,
which makes exploring easy, whether it be island wide or nearby destinations.
Limassol is a safe destination which has much to share, with its beautiful seafronts, countless cultural,
recreational and leisure activities, vibrant events and festivals as well as being a centre for conferences
and incentive travel programmes.

HISTORY OF LIMASSOL
The city, in the 10th century, was known as Nemesos and the
Byzantine emperor, Constantine Porphyrogenitus, refers to this
city with this name.
The history of the city is mainly known for its events in 1191 A.D.,
which marked the end of the Byzantine Rule in Cyprus. The king of
England, Richard the Lionheart, foresaw the strategic importance
of Cyprus as a base for supplying the forces taking part in the
Third Crusade and conquered the island. Richard celebrated his
marriage to Berengaria in Limassol where the latter was crowned
Queen of England. The Byzantine Rule in Cyprus then came to an
end.

WEDDINGS IN LIMASSOL Country code: (+357)
There are plenty of options when getting married in Limassol, the most cosmopolitan area of Cyprus. Whatever your preference,
the choices range from a simple civil ceremony at one of the elegantly designed town halls or a traditional religious ceremony in a
quaint church to an extravagant event in one of the many seafront hotels with luxurious banqueting facilities and private chapels
or a small private ceremony on a yacht cruising the clear waters of the Mediterranean.
Planning your wedding day is sure to run smoothly and effortlessly, whether you choose to let your tour operator or hotel handle
all the arrangements or even if you decide to make the preparations yourself, since there is little red tape to create unnecessary
obstacles. Couples who intend to get married are required to personally apply for a wedding license only after their arrival to
Cyprus, to the Marriage Officer at the Municipality of their choice. This is a very easy and quick procedure that leaves you plenty
of time to concentrate on your own special touches and enjoy the days leading up to the ceremony.
