As always we want to make it clear to everyone that most all the universities and

public schools in China are honorable institutions where teachers are generally
respected and not abused. Although there may be some exceptions, they are rare.
The vast majority of problematic schools and “cheaters” are with the privately
owned and “black” schools and training centers that are usually not registered
with SAFEA and do not have a long or verifiable track record, or they are using
(renting) the business license of third party. Be advised they represent only
about 10% of all employers in China but cause 90% of the arrests, jailings, and
deportations of teachers every year in China.

available to the public. Our members can obtain all 967 pages which now contain
1,498 white listed foreign teacher employers. This means they are properly
licensed and have less than five unresolved complaints against them over the last
year. They are not listed in any special order nor ranking to avoid disputes. This

 Send your cover letter and resume by fax DIRECTLY TO THE SCHOOL . Every

school in China that hires foreign teachers has an English speaking HR or FAO

person. You do not need an agent or third party to translate for you.

 Be sure to include your photo and SKYPE contact. Image is important to

Chinese employers and they will ignore resumes without photos. Dress sharp

and send a professional photo.

 Avoid agents if you want to earn the most possible money. They will tell you

“Don’t worry the school pays me” which is very misleading because the school

will still pay them from your salary allocation, and many agents will take 40% -

60% of what the school had budgeted to pay you! The average salary of a

foreign teacher in China today with a genuine and verifiable diploma is 18,000

rmb a month. Do not accept anything lower than 15,000 and a housing

allowance (usually 2,000 – 3,000 rmb) or you are cheating yourself.

 Always be courteous, polite, and avoid all cursing with your employer. If you are

rude or arrogant they will revoke your Z visa. (Do not accept any job that does

not provide you with a Z visa BEFORE you arrive to China or you have a 50%

risk of arrest, 30 days in jail, and deportation with immigration blacklisting.)

 Do not try to buy or use a fake Diploma or TEFL certificate as this is now being

heavily scrutinized in 2020 and over 5,000 foreign teachers were arrested and
 jailed in 2019 before they were deported. (65% of these teachers were arrested

for fake documents 30% for No Z visa, and 5% for drug use or possession).

Before you send your resume or passport to ANYONE be sure to visit and read

these websites, especially if you found your job at the Beijinger, Echinacities,

Gumtree, ESL Café, or Craiglist where dozens of identity thieves lurk and pose

as TEFL recruiters of legitimate schools. They will even set up fake Skype

interviews with you. 20% of all foreign teachers get scammed by these crooks

and their average loss is $7,800 before you or the credit card companies spot
