1 Preface

1.1 Software License & Limited Warranty


All information and recommendations in this manual are presented without warranty of
any kind. The user must take full responsibility for their application. ROSEN disclaims
all warranties. In no event shall ROSEN be liable for any damages.

The software license and limited warranty for ROSOFT will appear during the
installation process and needs to be accepted before the installation can be
completed.

1.2 System Requirements


Please check that the system on which the user will be installing ROSOFT Data
Management is running under the following:

ƒ Windows XP (Service Release 2)


ƒ Vista or Windows 7

1.2.1 Minimum Hardware Specification

Workstation/Laptop
Processor ≥ 2.2 GHz, dual core
HDD ≥ 100 GB
Memory ≥ 2 GB
Graphic Adapter ≥ 256 MB (latest driver update)
Display Resolution ≥ 1024 x 768
DVD ROM

1.2.2 Recommended Hardware Specification


Workstation

Processor ≥ 2.8 GHz, quad core


HDD ≥ 500 GB
Memory ≥ 2 GB
Graphic Adapter ≥ 512 MB (if possible NVIDIA Chipset for 3DPipe, SurfPipe)
Display Resolution ≥ 1600 x 1200
DVD ROM

Note Databases including a large number of features, or high-end ROSOFT implementations


for 3D visualization, require significantly higher system resources.

ROSOFT Data Management is based on a long track record of proven, successful


experience to create a reliable standard of presenting the status of pipelines.

The complete software package consists of several modules displayed in the main
application window. The main module, ROSOFT Data Management, can be
considered an administrator for starting Components and fulfilling administrative tools
with the Control Panel.

The Installation Guide 6.64 contains information to assist the user during the
installation. It will be a valuable resource for the step-by-step installation procedure,
and will walk the user through a typical installation using the installation CD-ROM.

3 Installation & Setup

The user can install ROSOFT Data Management either locally or on a network drive
and use it from a number of work stations.

The installation CD (containing the software) and the ROSOFT CD Serial no. 001
(containing the databases) should be saved on hard disk or network server.
All further ROSOFT CDs (Serial no. 002 – …) provide the measured inspection data
and can be copied or left on CD.

If you have a previous version of ROSOFT Data Management installed on your


system please un-install this version first. In order to un-install a previous version go to
the Add/Remove Program Window, and remove the ROSOFT Client DLL’s first and
then remove the ROSOFT Data Management 6.xx.

3.1 Default installation location


Default directory path:
Application: [WindowsVolume]ROSEN\ROSOFT
Inspected pipelines data: [WindowsVolume]ROSEN\ROSWORK

3.2 Local Installation


To install the application please run ROSOFT664Setup.exe from the ROSOFT
Installation CD.

1. Before the Setup starts, the Setup Language can be chosen. To view the
selection and select the language from the list, use the up and down arrows. Click
<OK>.

2. The installation will be prepared. This may take some time.

3. This window welcomes the user to the InstallShield Wizard for ROSOFT Data
Management 6.64 Program. Click <Next>.

4. The License Agreement should be carefully read and the terms accepted before
installation can continue. Click <Next>.

5. The standard path displayed can be accepted with <Next>.


A different destination folder can be selected by <Change>.
After Selection click <OK>. Click <Next>

6. If all of the selected settings are ok, click <Install> to start the installation.

7. Mark check box for display of the Windows Installer log. Click <Finish>.

Note: After successful installation, the user can run ROSOFT Data Management using the
Windows Start Menu shortcut.

3.3 Network Installation

3.3.1 Requirements
ƒ Administrator privileges.
ƒ Operating system Windows XP SP2, Vista or Windows 7.
ƒ Network share for inspection data (ROSWORK directory) with read/write
permissions for all ROSOFT Data Management users.

3.3.2 Server Installation


Create a shared folder for inspection data (ROSWORK directory) with read/write
permissions for ROSOFT Data Management users.

e.g. Server 01, shared folder C:\Roswork

3.3.3 Client installation


The path to the ROSWORK directory can be set as a Windows Installer property.
The property is called “ROSWORKDIR”. Administrators can set this property in
several ways:

ƒ Automatically
ƒ Modify the original MSI
ƒ Create a MSI transform
ƒ Manually

The following describes the manually procedure.

1. To install the application please run Rosoft664Setup.exe from the ROSOFT


Installation CD by passing the property to the Rosoft664Setup.exe in the form:

Rosoft664Setup.exe /vROSWORKDIR=”\\dataserver\roswork”
e.g D:\ Rosoft664Setup.exe /vROSWORKDIR=\\Server 01\Roswork

3.4 Modify, Repair & Remove


If the software has been installed previously, the following window appears upon
attempting installation. Now it is possible to modify, repair or remove the program.
Click the respective radio button. Click <Next>.

The application can be removed by using the Add/Remove Program Control Panel
functionality. Please select ROSOFT Data Management 6.64 in the Add/Remove
Program Window. Click <Remove>. Select <Yes> for confirmation.

4 Program start

4.1 Initial login


The ROSOFT Data Management application initializes with a Login window.

1. Enter 'admin' in the user name text box.

2. Enter 'admin' in the password text box.

3. Click <Login> to start the ROSOFT Data Management application or click


<Cancel> to return to Windows.

Note: The 'admin' user has administrator rights regarding the security, project management and
archive functions. It is recommend, that this password is changed immediately after the
first login.

4.2 Project databases and Inspection Data

Data will normally be delivered to clients on CD's/DVD's with the project databases on
one CD/DVD and the Inspection Data files on other CD's/DVD's.
It is necessary to install the project databases (DBF files) from the CD/DVD onto the
computer hard drive.
The Inspection Data files do not need to be stored on the computer hard drive. Due to
their size, they normally remain on the CD's/DVD's.

4.2.1 Install pipeline data

1. From the ROSOFT Data Management main window tab the arrow to the right of
the Administration button to display the drop-down list.

2. Select <Line Manager>. The Line Manager dialog will appear.


You can follow the installation process by clicking <Open Log> button before
inserting the first CD. Click <Close Log> to close the window extension.

3. Insert the first ROSOFT CD with the serial no. 001……..


ROSOFT Data Management searches all logical drives for data and will install the
available lines. A series of dialog boxes question the user and provide a number
of fixed responses.

4. After the project has been installed, click <Close> to return to the ROSOFT Data
Management application window.
ROSOFT Data Management software components such as <ROSOFT for
Pipelines> can now be started.

Note Without having selected a project (line) the user will NOT be able to start ROSOFT for
Pipelines. If only one line is installed, this line will be automatically activated.

If a line is already installed, the following message appears on the screen with
information about the user and computer where the line is installed. The installation
process terminates.

In order to guarantee that the inspection results can only be viewed by the
corresponding client, all data are encoded for the user ROSOFT version.
If the line is not correctly encoded a message appears and the installation process
terminates. Please contact the ROSEN OPCO for support.

4.2.2 Select a new pipeline


You can switch between different pipeline projects (if available) after the project
databases (DBF files) have been installed from the CD onto the computer hard drive.

1. From the ROSOFT Data Management main window tab the arrow to the right of
the Administration button to display the drop-down list.

2. Select <Line Manager>. The Line Manager dialog will appear. All available
pipeline projects are listed. Click the radio button next to the project you want to
select.

3. A confirmation dialog will appear. Click <Yes> to set the selection. ROSOFT will
change the active line and close the Line Manager application.

4.2.3 Remove pipeline data

1. From the ROSOFT Data Management main window tab the arrow to the right of
the Administration button to display the drop-down list.

2. Select <Line Manager>. The Line Manager dialog will appear. Select the pipeline
you want to remove and click <Remove Line>.

3. A confirmation dialog will appear. Click <Yes> to remove the selected line.

4.2.4 Network Operation & Stored Data

The Line Manager presents additional helpful information during network operation:

(1) The line is locked / in use exclusively by following user.


(If a line is presented only gray-scaled, the user does not have the needed
access rights for the location where the line is installed.)

(2) Tool Tip about local removable drives

(3) Installation information about user, computer, path of the selected line

In the Line Manager, the user can activate the ‘HDD’ check box with a left mouse
button click (hook visible) for those lines which the inspection data is to be copied to
hard disk (HD).

Information on Inspection Data storage location is displayed on the Symbolic Pipe


view in the bottom part of the ROSOFT for Pipelines window.

ƒ violet marked line segments refer to availability of inspection data from HD (hard
disk)
ƒ green marked line segments refer to availability of inspection data from current
CD

and Backup please refer to the Online Help.

5.1 Support & Feedback

5.1.2 Improvement Note


ROSEN encourages any suggestions for improvement regarding this ROSOFT Data
Management Quick Installation Guide 6.xx. When submitting suggestions please be
as specific as possible in the description, and include the section number.

5.2 Service Pack Patch


ROSEN provides the ROSOFT Service Pack Patch for update purposes.

This window welcomes the user to the Patch for RDM 6.xx. Click <Update> to
continue.

After clicking on Update to start the installation, the files will be copied to the hard
disk. The Update is finished after starting ROSOFT Data Management for the first
time – administrator privileges may be needed to complete the installation.

5.3 Crash-Message Tool


The Crash Message tool gathers information about the software into a file in order for
our technical support to help the user overcome the problem. Moreover, the issue can
be reported to ROSEN for use in improving future versions of the program. Click
<Send Error Report> or <Cancel>. Neither user nor company information will be
transmitted
