“What are my learnings in Mathematics in Modern World?”

REFLECTION PAPER

Mathematics in Modern World is not your typical math subject because it doesn’t tackle
about the usual algebraic expression and other topics that you know. This subject will make you
realize that Mathematics is everywhere. It is inevitable for you to observe things that has
something to do with math. Just like patterns, patterns are all around, and when you encourage
your someone to recognize patterns, you are strengthening their math skills. Students who can
identify patterns have an easier time solving problems and making mathematical connections.
Stars have patterns because most of the astrologist believe that our destiny depends on the
patterns of the stars. Some of the astrologists thinks that the stars really determine who we are,
and the others think that the stars influence our destiny. These patterns show us that there is a gap
between the human being and the universe. Einstein had been pondered how mathematics does
work in science perfectly for years. He knew that mathematics is the connection or the bridge or
the language for that gap. And at this point, being a connection between us and the universe
makes mathematics the greatest achievement for the people. If you also take a look closer at the
patterns of our world, you will always reveal the beautiful mathematics.

Logic pattern deals with the characteristics of various objects. Another kind deals with
order: there's a sequence of objects and a pattern in the attributes the objects possess. We see this
type of pattern on aptitude tests. Learning logic can allow you to improve the quality of the
arguments that you create. When you make rational disputes, you are apt to convince other
people to agree with your claims. You would be able to understand arguments the way they are
supposed to be constructed and the way they shouldn’t be constructed. Logic is what makes us
think critically because we, people are easily fooled by one glance. We must put logic into things
so that we can think outside the box and be comprehensive enough to determine a specific
situation.
Have you ever realize where do number came from? How can we count through the basic
use of our fingers during our elementary days? Early humans in the Paleolithic age likely counted
animals and other everyday objects by carving tally marks into cave walls, bones, wood or stone.
Each tally mark stood for one and each fifth mark was scored through to help keep track. This
system is fine for small numbers, but it doesn’t really work with large numbers. As early
civilizations developed, they came up with different ways of writing down numbers. Many of
these systems, including Greek, Egyptian and Hebrew numerals, were essentially extensions of
tally marks. The used a range of different symbols to represent larger values. Early number
systems all have one thing in common. They require someone to write down many symbols to
record a single number and create new symbols for each larger number. A positional system
allows you to reuse the same symbols, by assigning the symbols different values based on their
position in the sequence. Several civilizations developed positional notation independently,
including the Babylonians, the Chinese and the Aztecs.

One of my favorite is discovering again the history behind the existence of something.
Numbers are not just plainly for counting. It came from numerous of method before it lead to our
hands. I learned a lot of method and startegies on how early people count and even do accounting
in their era. They discover various of principle and theories to justify the occurence of each
number. Some people say Mathematics is not important because you don’t need it other than
basic math principles—you can live without more complicated math. They also say, if you need
it, then simply use a calculator and leave the more complicated math to people who likes math,
the mathematicians. It is a misconception of many because you need math and could not live
well without math, even including more complicated math concepts. God made us with a sense
of curiosity so we can learn, do, and think about all sorts of things. Math is that thing that
connects everything together, everything people love to do: music, cooking, painting, and
everything else. Therefore, Math is important.
