In addition to flange facing, by using various accessories it is also possible to carry out other
machining operations, such as orbital milling, journal/end shaft turning and valve seat machining.

These products are built using latest linear and ball screw technology and
offer easy setup, an independent locking base, geared feed rates - ready for
use with standard flanges and for seal groove configuration.

Mirage Flange Facing Machines are used in a
wide range of industries. These include:
Flange facing machines are commonly powered by an air motor, however many machines in
the range can be specified at the point of order with an optional hydraulic motor. Its also
possible to convert many pneumatic machines in the range to a hydraulically powered type.
The machines work in a similar way to a gramophone player, with the cutting tool travelling in a
spiral path across the face of the flange. The resulting surface finish (often called a
phonographic or spiral serrated finish) is commonly specified for flanges in the oil and gas
industries. This finish allows the gasket material to be compressed to fill the spiral groove. A
flange with a finish of this type is less liable to leakage, as any gas or liquid is forced to travel
in the log spiral path rather than across the flange face.

Externally mounted machines use legs that clamp inwards onto the external sidewall of
the flange. These are the preferred choice when access to the flange bore is restricted.

The QuickFace makes re-facing easy. Every
day we’re presented with hundreds of
situations where flanges that need to be re-
faced are in awkward or even dangerous
locations. Pipes can be situated at the top of a
refinery installation or miles away from the
nearest power line.
