SCENE 3: Parthian Empire

*Reynan enters the scene*

Reynan: I assigned several satraps all over my territories and when I died, you, (turo) Seleucus I became
greedy! I already given you Syria, Mesopotamia and Iran but you, ungrateful steward did not content
yourself and conquer Egypt from Ptolemies. After your reign, your son, Seleucus II, was forced to take
over.

Reynan: But he was too young, too naïve to understand politics, and was easily overthrown by you,
Andragoras (turo). You took advantage of his innocence! From a child, really?! And then you proceeded
to mint your face to a coin?! What a narcissist! Then your karma came around hahaha! Parthia has fallen
in the hands of the Parni led by Arsaces I, who then became the first ever Parthian King.

Reynan: Then series of kings came and go, under the name of King Mithradates the Great.

Reynan: One of the most notable events during Parthian Empire is the Battle of Carrhae, where the
Roman Senator Marcus Licinius Crassus tried to invade Parthia but failed in the hands of General
Surenas. The Partian armies consisted of two types of cavalry: the heavy-armed and armoured
cataphracts and light brigades of mounted archers. To the Romans, who relied on heavy infantry, the
Parthians were hard to defeat. On the other hand, the Parthians could never occupy conquered
countries; they were unskilled in siege warfare. This explains why the Roman-Parthian wars lasted so
long.

Reynan: This war impoverished Parthia and resulted to a lost of control over the vassal kings. The most
successful of them is you, (turo) Ardashir I. Your revolt ended what I have established! You caused the
fall of Parthian Empire

--- end scene 3 ---

SCENE 4: Sassanid Empire

Maan: *Kwento about Ardashir*

Maan: The Sassanid Empire was established when this guy (turo), Ardashir I, who was at that time, was
the king of Persis, revolted against the Parthians. He came from a lineage of rulers and was the grandson
of the great priest of the temple of Anahita, Sassan, from whom the name of Sassanid Empire came
from. Ardashir I gave special importance to three things (1) centralization of power, (2) installing
Zoroastrianism, as a state religion, and (3) paying attention to the Persian rivalry with Rome.
Maan: He was succeeded by you (turo), Shapur I, son of Ardashir I. You have intensive development
plans and founded many cities. You have a policy of religious tolerance unlike his successors, who
persecuted Christians and your greatest accomplishment is that you invaded the kingdom of Armenia,
which proves your dominance over the Romans in your time. Good job!

Maan: He was succeeded by a series of weak rulers, one of which is Hormizd II, who was unable to
control the nobles. Persian nobles killed him and his eldest son, blinded the second, and imprisoned the
third. The only heir left was his unborn child, carried by you (turo). Watch your steps okay?

Maan: In the name of the Sassanian Empire and those came before us, I proclaim you, Shapur II, as our
new ruler and therefore shall be born as king. You hang on there, child! (Uwi) During his reign, Shapur II
signed a peace treaty with Constantius II in which both sides agreed not to attack each other’s territory.
His successor, Shapur III, agreed with Roman Emperor Theodosius I to formally divide Armenia between
Eastern Roman (Byzantine Empire) and the Sassanian Empire.

Maan: Time passed by and the Second Golden Era has begun. Here, Khosrau I, also known as Anushirvan
or “with the immortal soul” ascendant to the throne as the most celebrated of the Sassanid rulers. He
was famous for his government reforms, introduced a rational system of taxation and develop a new
force of paid knights called Dehkan.

Maan: Although hugely successful, the Sassanid Empires campaign had over extended the Persian army
and overtaxed the people, which led to a divided and ineffective government. They were defeated by
the Arab Umayyad Caliphate during the tenure of Yazdgird III, the last king of the Sassanian Empire. The
abrupt fall of Sassanid Empire was completed in a period of 5 years and most of its territories were
absorbed into the Islamic caliphate.
