I. Learning Objective:
Through a bigbook, the pupils will be able to:
a) Define and describe the parts of the book,
b) Instil in their hearts the moral of the story, and
c) Demonstrate the parts of the book.
II. Learning Content:
a) Subject Matter: Parts of the Book
b) Key Concept: Shoe Lace, Alien
c) Reference: Bigbook “The Alien” by Melody Mangsi
d) Materials: Bigbook, Realia of a shoe lace, cardboard
e) Values: “Never judge someone on how they look” or
“Don’t judge a book by its cover”
III. Learning Procedure:
a) Preparatory Activity
Teacher skims the story
1. Motivation: Pupils will stand up and sing an action song, entitled “Do not Judge”
“Do not Judge
People by what they look like,
Don’t Decide
Get to know what’s there inside,
Do not Judge
People by what they look like,
Close your eyes
Open up your mind
And be kind
# Transition: Let the pupils rest and ask what they know about an Alien,
On what they look-like, is it nice or is it bad?
Then ask them what they know about a book,
Did you read a story or did someone read a story to you?
b) Lesson Proper
1. Present the Bigbook and its parts
a) Front – Title and the name of the Writer and the Illustrator
b) Left – spine of the book which holds the book
c) Right – opens the book
d) Back
e) Top
f) Bottom
g) Pages – opens the pages of the book
2. Tell-a-Tale “The Alien”
a) Who got lost in the forest
b) Who followed the Doll and the Robot?
c) Why did the alien follow the Doll and the Robot?
d) Who tied the aliens’ shoe lace?
e) What did you learn from the story?
c) Evaluation: The teacher will ask the student to stand in front, hold the bigbook, answer
the teachers question and show it to the rest of the class.
