1. Introduction

1.1 PURPOSE
A Specification (SP) is a document that Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) issue to
specify their requirements, procedures and standards. The prefix for these documents shall
be SP.
This SP describes a consistent coding method to be adopted for identification of overhead
lines. The coding system will serve three main purposes:
• Uniquely identify each overhead line on the system.
• Identify each pole or tower structure on the particular overhead line.
• Provide information as to the operating voltage, function and sources of supply to the
particular overhead line.

1.2 APPLICABLE STANDARDS, SPECIFICATION AND CODES

The following documents are referred to in this specification and shall be consulted when
applying the requirements of this specification.
ERD-00-14 - Project Drawing Procedure
SP-1105 - Electrical Standard Drawings
The above documents are available from DCS.

1.3 COMPLIANCE WITH STANDARDS

If this SP is applicable to the work that you do, you shall obey its instructions. You shall get
approval, in writing, from the Corporate Functional Discipline Head (CFDH) who approved
this SP before you use other procedures.

1.3.1 Language and Units Of Measurement

You shall use the English language and the International System (SI) units of measurement
in all documents and drawings; refer to ISO 31 and ISO 1000. Where the SI unit is a
conversion of a manufactured dimension, you can put the original dimension, in brackets,
after the SI units. For example, 50mm (2in) pipe.

*The substation code of the substation, which the line supplies, shall be added.

e) Field Distribution Lines

Field distribution lines start at a gathering station and provide supply to electrically
powered well site pumping units, field wells or well supply lines.
The function code for a field distribution line shall be FD. +, *
+R shall be added on any section of a field distribution line that forms part of a ring.
*V or W shall be added for the two field distribution lines of one gathering station.
VW shall be added for the line section between the gathering station the branch point
of the two field distribution lines.

f) Well Supply Lines

Well supply lines Tee-Off field distribution lines and connect to Well transformers.
The function code for well supply lines shall be WS*.
*1, 2, 3, etc, shall be added for the number of the well supply line. Numbers shall be
allocated (where possible) in sequence starting from the gathering station.

2.1.1.2 Middle Row - Circuit Code

The circuit code shall consist of the code name(s) of the substation(s) at which the overhead
line terminates. The type of circuit code used will be dependent upon the line function.

2.1.1.2.1 Main Lines

The circuit code shall consist of the substation location codes of the two substations
terminating the line. Where there is an obvious source end to the line this substation
location code shall be written first. The two codes shall be separated by a hyphen.

2.1.1.2.2 Ring Main Lines

The circuit code shall consist of the substation location code of the source substation or,
where there are identified substations (or switchracks) in the ring, the substation location
codes of the two ends of the line section shall be used.

2.1.1.2.3 Radial Lines

The circuit code shall consist of the substation location code of the source substation.

2.1.1.2.4 Tee-Off Lines
