Introduction:

My name is Nikita Chahal bearing Indian passport number K7799154. I was born on 30-10-
1995. I am a permanent resident of Rajnigandha apartment, Green Garden estate, Patel nagar,
City Centre, Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. I feel lucky that I belong to a well settled nuclear family
of 4 members. My father Mr. Sarabjit Singh Chahal used to serve in Madhya Pradesh Police at
the designation of Deputy superintendent of police. Unfortunately, he passed away in year 2010
due to heart attack. My mother Mrs. Sukhwinder Kaur is a housewife who also takes care of our
farming land. My brother Mr. Prajeet Singh Chahal is a retired major from Indian army and is
currently running his own petrol station. Ever since my childhood, my family has always
supported me in making my own decisions. I take deep interest in sports. During my school
years, I played in district and state level Basketball championship. Other than that, I have
partaken in national Level swimming competitions as well. Sports have helped me to shape my
personality into a hardworking, punctual and reliable person who is not afraid of challenges.

I am a girl boosted by strong determination and will power. Other than sports, my hobbies
include reading mystery novels, cooking and painting. I very strongly believe that, quality
education is the most powerful tool to bring about a change in the world. I discussed my plans of
getting my further education from abroad with my family and they open heartedly welcomed my
decision. After considering my interests and future goals, I did a thorough research by attending
educational seminars and surfing on the internet. I am applying for Masters of International
Business in La Trobe University. My course duration is 1 year and 8 months.

Academic Background

I feel lucky that I was considered a brilliant student by my teachers. I completed my 10th from
Scindia Kanya Vidyalaya School, affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education, Gwalior
with CGPA 7.4 in year 2011. After that, I completed my higher secondary school from Scindia
Kanya Vidyalaya School, Gwalior affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education in
Commerce with Psychology in year 2013. Due to my immense interest in the field of business, I

To pursue my dream of higher education, I appeared for IELTS test on 13-June-2019 and scored
overall 7.5 bands with no band less than 6.5. My individual band scores are listed below

Work Experience:

After the completion of my graduation, I started working at Cox and Kings Limited from July
2016 to December 2018 at the position of Junior Executive. During my work experience, I got
to understand the demands and functions of the Indian business sector. This work experience
added a lot to my overall knowledge quotient and helped me to realize my interest towards the
field of international business.

Immigration History:

I feel very lucky that during my school years, I got to visit New Zealand for one month in a
Study Exchange program in year 2012. This experience allowed me to understand how the
education system of developed countries is different from the Indian Education System. Other
than that, I have also had the chance to travel to other beautiful countries such as Malaysia,
Singapore and Sri Lanka in year 2011.

Why not India?

India has fairly improved in various sectors but education is a sector where a lot of work is
needed. Although Master of International Business is available in India, but to get admission in
a top rated institute, one has to clear entrance exams such as CAT (Common Admission Test),
Management Aptitude Test and XAT. Along with the tests, the student has to face various
screenings and interviews in order to gain admission. Students, who are not able to clear these
exams, have to take admission in private institutes which are not highly valued by the
employers. Below are a few institutes that follow the test criteria:-

Jamia Millia Islamia - JMI, New Delhi

Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra

IIS University - International College for Girls - ICG, Jaipur

ICFAI Business School

Although entrance exams are not something that kept me from applying in local universities. I
have spent a good amount of time in Indian education system and found out that, the Indian
education system is completely based on theoretical based learning. The students are made to
cram the concepts and sit in the exams. Not much attention is paid to hands on knowledge of the
concepts. Most of the Indian colleges and universities still use obsolete teaching methods and
syllabus. Along with that, the class sizes in Indian institutions are very big. This makes it very
difficult to gain individual attention of the teacher and clear any doubts. The availability of
Student support Centers is very much limited in India. After deeply considering all these factors,
I decided to pursue my further education from abroad.
Why Australia?

Choosing the right country for my further education was one of the most important decisions of
my life hence, I put a lot of research before deciding to continue my further studies from
Australia. The best feature that attracted me towards Australia was its education system. The
Australian Education System is designed in such a way that it delivers the perfect combination of
theoretical and practical knowledge. The syllabus in Australia is updated time to time to keep the
students up to date with everything. The entire teaching and learning experience in Australia is
focused on delivering industry oriented training making the students industry ready as soon as
they complete their studies. Australia is home to 7 out of top 100 universities in the world and
also has 5 most student friendly cities in the world. Australia boasts an exceptionally advanced
education system. The use of modern technology is highly promoted across Australian
institutions. The seminar and project based learning promotes the students to have hands on
knowledge of the concepts they have studied in the class. Other facilities such as mid semester
trainings, assignments and seminars make the learning experimental for the students. There are
student support centers specifically designed to help the students in time of need. The class sizes
in Australia are relatively smaller making the student teacher interaction easier. The use of
Audio-Video aids is highly promoted and most of the classes are conducted in the same way.
Services such as CRICOS (Commonwealth Registration of International Courses for Overseas
Students) make sure that the students are enrolled in government approved courses only. Other
salient pro of studying in Australia is that it allows the students to sign an agreement with their
education providers which makes the student eligible for full refund of the tuition fees paid in
case the provider is not able to arrange the desired course of the students. Other facilities such as
TPS (Tuition Protection Services) ensure that the hard earned money of the student goes directly
to the safe hands of the college. Apart from this, Australia has English as its major language of
communication; this will help me to enhance my communication skills. The country offers a
multicultural environment with people coming from all walks of life. This will allow me to
interact and gain knowledge about various cultures. The international exposure that I would
receive by studying in Australia would help me to stand out in the crowd.

Choosing Australia not other Countries:

Before choosing Australia, I searched other countries as well like USA & Canada. In USA there
are leading universities like Princeton University, Harvard University, Stanford University etc.
Which require IELTS and SAT examination. In order to achieve good scores in SAT
examination, student need 4 to 6 month of preparation. I can apply for bachelors or diploma
leading to degree program in Australia directly without any barriers. Speaking of Canada, the
weather conditions of the country are extremely cold. I was born and brought up in the semi-
tropical environment of India and it would be very difficult for me to adjust to the new weather.
Hence, I did not choose Canada. Concluding I prefer to study in Australia wherein education
system is similar to India in terms of structure but has far more practical approach which is based
on British education, safe and secure environment and similar climate conditions too.
Besides this, Australian student visa regulations allows to work up to 40 hours per fortnightly
while studying. In this way, I will be able to gain on job practical view of my study, by doing a
job related to my study. In India, trend of doing part time professional job is very rare. Usually
students depend completely on their families to manage expenses till the time they are studying.
So studying in Australia will also help me to become independent, gain useful work experience
in a foreign country and meeting new people learn new culture and expand my thinking abilities.
Last but not the least; education system is carefully regulated by Australian Government in order
to maintain high standards of education associated with the country.

Hence, by considering all the above facts, I decided to continue my post-graduation studies in
Australia. Furthermore, in Europe, language will be a huge barrier for me. It is not an easy task
for me to learn whole new language. Every European country has own language which is not
similar to English. So it is difficult for me to survive in such an environment where I will be not
able to communicate well. But in Australia, majority of the people speaks English, so it will easy
for me to survive in Australia as I have studied English in my previous study.
