Established in the year 1898 and headquartered in Harrison, New York, PepsiCo is a multinational

American snack, food and beverage corporation. The organizations interests include
manufacturing, marketing and distributing grain-based foods, snack and similar products.

Organizational Culture

Organizational culture encompasses the beliefs, values, shared traditions which contribute towards
creating a unique environment for the organization. The organizational culture of PepsiCo, strives
to maximize the strength of its human resources and encourage employees to focus on excellence
in a collaborative way. Being one of the largest foods and beverage companies in the world, it is
continuously working towards its efforts to develop and improve their workforce. In order to
maintain the market position which, the organization holds, it is vital to maintain a high-
performance culture. The company’s organizational culture is used as an approach to maximize
the performance by taking care of bringing out the best of their employee’s strengths, along with
to using their capabilities in the best possible manner.

Throughout the years, PepsiCo adjusts its organization culture to best fit the company. Some of
the features of the company’s organizational culture comprises of:

Performance with Purpose:

The organizational culture of PepsiCo believes in performing with a purpose so as to excel for its
customers, communities and the company and thereby addressing to the concerns of its
stakeholders. It drives the employees to do better and motivates them towards achieving excellence
in the job they perform so their efforts contribute towards the growth of the organization and its
stakeholders. This characteristic of the organization’s culture is also indicating its dedication
towards serving and fulfilling its corporate social responsibilities.
Real World Leadership:

Leadership in PepsiCo’s organizational culture focuses on the needs of the employees, its
customers, communities and investors. It seeks advice from its workers to develop its leadership
and promotes them to leadership positions. By selecting their leaders internally, the company helps
its workers sharpen their leadership skills from their experience in the company. This process also
ensures organizational learning is maintained through its culture.

Collaboration:

An essential part of PepsiCo’s organizational culture is collaboration. The organization believes


that teamwork allows the company to achieve great performance. Even though the company values
the strengths of its individual workers, the organizational culture of the company integrates the
strengths of the workers through collaborative efforts. By collaborating the workers efforts,
PepsiCo not only depends on individual efforts but supports synergy of human resources.

Motivation

A critical aspect of the organization is motivation for its employees or the desire at which
employees feel to perform which also relates to the performance of the company. One of the vital
reasons for employee motivation is that it allows the management to achieve the organizations
goals.

Some of the ways PepsiCo uses to energize and motivate its employees are:

Looking for way to thank their employees for the contribution towards the company is considered
to be an excellent tool for letting them know their value.

For the former CEO of PepsiCo, Indra Nooyi, Performance with Purpose was much more than
corporate social responsibility. It hopes to give its employees an explicit and clear direction. By
providing them with a clear direction, employees performance is enhanced when they know that
the company’s vision and mission are aligned with their personal values.
Another feature of PepsiCo, on motivating its employees is to let them have more influence and
autonomy within the organization. For instance, employees can create local flavors for Lay’s as
long as it retains its signature taste.

Some of the benefits and incentives the organization offers in order to motivate its workers are:
The organization guarantees its working employees from not being removed after working for a
particular time period. This allows the employees to put their best foot forward and work sincerely
as this would allow them to remain the company for a longer duration.

Another motivator for the employees in PepsiCo, is the allowance they receive for various
overheads such as housing, food etc. this serves as an added advantage to the people working in
the organization and also promotes efficiency.

Creating an atmosphere of healthy competition is valuable for the organization as it improves


productivity and performance also enhances when promotion is purely given on merit.

The company recognizes the efforts its employees by felicitating them in its annual performance
appraisal where categories like best employee, proactive employee etc. and awarded. This
motivates them to perform better in order to obtain that recognition.

Additional cash rewards are provided to employees who are extremely dedicated. This also
includes those who have been a part the organization for ten to fifteen years or more.
