Venice
One of the famous city in Italy is Venice. It becomes popular because it is rich and interesting. It has
a lot of history documentations and offers a lot of attractive things to visitors.
Venice has been established over 2000 years ago when waves of barbarians drovc people out of
their homes in various Roman cities. Around years 800-1100 AD, Venice underwent a period of
growth, and became more centralized. It gradually developed into a city state, which is essentially a
self-govemed region ofa country that trades freely among others.
As Venice gradually developed, it became a prominent player in the sea trade of the time. It was set
upon by many different threats. Pirates became the hugest problem. Fewer and fewer shipments
were making it through the treacherous water. It happened when the Republic of Venice decided to
move the operations to the eastern shores.
When we think of Venice, the first thing comes to mind are canals. They are considered as the
trademark of the city. Canals are mostly recognizable for providing the main form of transportation
throughout the city. Visiting Venice brings a rich aura of history and culture. Floating through the
canals for an afternoon makes a memorable experience. The travelers commonly enjoy it very much.

Teddy scored a goal, courtesy of my assistance! The ball was passedto me on the edge of the box. I
thought I would have a shot. I didn’t catch it well and the ball went to teddy. He swept it in. I
couldn’t believe it. I immediately looked at the linsman because I thought there must be something
wrong. There wasn’t. We scored a goal.
Of course, seconds later we won another corner and ole gunnar scored a goal. That moment was so
wonderful it was unbelievable. I have no idea what I did. I wasn’t among the players who were
celebrating the winning goal. It was frightening! But I do remember, I was walking back to the centre
circle. I asked the referee how long. He just said “That’s it”.
For years, I had watched players on television who were collecting thropies. I always though , “what
are they crying about?” I was certain I would never, ever do that. But when the final whistle went off
at the Nou Camp, I just dropped to my knees. I started to cry. I really couldn’t help it. The emotion of
winning was so overwhelming. I looked back on last season as the best of my career.
12. From the last paragraph, why the writer’s started to cry?
A. Teddy got a red card
B. The game is up
C. The writer not scored a goal
D. The writer team losing the match

Obesity is a major global health epidemic that increases the risk of type 2 diabetes and heart
disease.
Researches from Flinders University, Australia, are studying a gene related to obesity. RCAN1,
which may allow you to eat as much as you want without gaining weight The study used a huge
genetic screen in rodents to identify obesity-causing genetic candidates. When the gene RCAN1 was
removed, the mice could feed on high fat foods for prolonged periods without gaining weight.
According to project leader and professor Damien Keating, blocking RCAN1 helps transform
energy- storing white fat into energy-burning brown fat, meaning the body burns calories even while
resting and without the need for dietary restrictions or extra exercise. The international team said
new drug therapies could be developed based on the finding. Inhibiting the gene might also
translate into combating obesity and serious diseases such as diabetes.
“We are currently testing a series of protein-targeting drugs to see if they inhibit RCAN1 and
whether they represent potential new anti-obesity drugs,” Keating said. Two-thirds of Austra!ian
adults and a quarter of children are either overweight or obese, yet left with limited effective
therapeutic treatments. „We have research funding from the National Health and Medical Research
Council. We can potentially make a real difference in the fight again obesity,” Keating added.

The bid to create a global digital museum has been welcomed by scientists, who say it will
enable them to study valuable specimens that are currently hidden in museum drawers. Museums
including London‟s Natural History Museum and the Smithsonian in Washington DC are involved.
They have set out ambitious plans to digitize millions of specimens. Digitally recording 40 millions
fossils at the Smithsonian will take an estimated 50 years. However, five years into the project, the
team says it is bringing dark data into the light for crucial research.
Kathy Holits from the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, who is leading the project there
explained, “We are trying to make our entire collection available digitally for researchers to use
online from anywhere in the world. We‟re pretty sure that this is the largest fossil collection in the
world.”
For the vast majority of the digitization project, museums will capture high quality images and
all of
the key information—age, species, where the specimen was discovered—to make available
online. That alone is valuable—studying digital marine for example, is already enabling researchers
to understand how marine life in changing sea levels and ocean temperatures. However, the most
detailed digital data can actually be better than a real fossil.
Prof Emily Rayfield at the University of Bristol uses CT scans of dinosaur skulls and other bones
to build computer models for research. Prof Rayfield‟s colleague at Bristol University, Prof Philip
Donoghue, uses digital scans of ancient fossilized microorganisms to produce large-scale versions
that reveal far more detail about how they lived. He said that a digital fossil would transform
scientists‟ ability to study life on earth.

Answer:
When the full moon occurs during the moon‟s closest approach to Earth, its perigee, it appears
larger and brighter in the sky. This phenomenon is often called a supermoon. A new moon at perigee
is also often referred to as a supermoon. However, this event usually gains less attention because a
new moon is invisible from earth.
The moon‟s orbit around Earth is not a perfect circle, but elliptical, with one side closer to earth
than the other. As a result, the distance between the moon and earth varies throughout the month
and the year. On average, the distance is about 382,900 kilometers (238,000 miles).
The point on the moon‟s orbit closest to Earth is called the perigee and the point farthest away
is the apogee.
When a full moon occurs when the moon is near its closest approach to earth, it is called a
Super Full Moon. When there is a new moon around the closest point to earth, it is known as a
Super New Moon. A micromoon, on the other hand, is when a full or a new moon is near its farthest
point from earth, around apogee. It‟s also known as a minimoon.
48. What is the text about?

True Friends
Once upon a time, there were two close friends who were walking through the forest
together. They knew that anything dangerous can happen any time in the forest. So they promised
each other that they would always be together in any case of danger.
Suddenly, they saw a large bear getting closer toward them. One of them climbed a nearby
tree at once. But unfortunately the other one did not know how to climb up the tree. So being led by
his common sense, he lay down on the ground breathless and pretended to be a dead man.
The bear came near the one who was lying on the ground. It smelt in his ears, and slowly left
the place because the bears do not want to touch the dead creatures. After that, the friend on the
tree came down and asked his friend that was on the ground, “Friend, what did the bear whisper
into your ears?” The other friend replied, “Just now the bear advised me not to believe a false
friend”.

Geckos are small to middle size lizards. Lizards are reptiles. There are 1196 different kinds
of geckos. They live in many warm countries. Some kinds of geckos go into people's houses.
People are often happy to have them because geckos eat many insects.
Unlike most lizards, geckos have voices. A gecko sounds a little like a bird or a frog. In
some languages these lizards have names that sound like their calls, for example, both English and
Indonesian call one kind gecko (gek KO) and tokay (to- KAY). Another kind of gecko, with a
different sound, is called chicak (CHEE chak).
Geckos have no eyelids. Instead, they have a clear membrane (skin) over their eyes. They
lick the membrane clean with their tongues. Like most lizards, they can regenerate their tail if they
