THE TEACHER’S SYLLABUS (2014 - 2015)

Module: Discourse Analysis


Level: 1ST /2nd Year Master

Course Description and overall goals

Designed to appeal to a graduate LMD audience in EFL, this three-semester course examines some of the fundamental ideas of Discourse Analysis. Lectures cover a variety of major
themes and issues under DA such as, history of discourse analysis, register analysis, linguistic elements in discourse, cohesion, coherence, speech acts, etc. The course builds on the LMD
‘Licence’ course.

MAIN OBJECTIVES (specific, measurable, time-bound)

1. To introduce M-students to as a sub-branch of DA.

2. To enable M-students to develop an integrated understanding of this branch of knowledge, culminating in proposals for research that
could help advance their understanding in this area of study.

3. To prepare M-students to act as researchers and professionals (future teachers) in the field of DA.
