SYSTEM DESIGN

DEFINITION: It is the art of defining the architecture of hardware and software,

components, modules and data of a computer system to meet certain requirements.
System design plays a more respected and crucial role in the data processing industry. The
importance of cross-platform software has increased software engineering at the expense
of system designs.

Object-oriented analysis and design methods are the most widely used methods for system
design. The UML has become a standard in Object Oriented Analysis and Design. It is widely
used for modeling software systems and has increased its use for the design of non-
software systems as well as organizations.
• Design is the creative process of transforming the problem into a solution; the description
of a solution is also called design.
• The solution will be the one that satisfies all the requirements set out in the requirements
specification.
• The solutions in many cases are unlimited.

SYSTEM TYPES
• Structured Design

• Frame Structure Diagram

• Physical Design Optimization

• Test Design

• Prototype

CHARACTERISTICS SYSTEM DESIGN

• Efficiency.

• Ease of use.

• Savings.

• Fault detection

• Information classification

• Identification of customer needs

IMPORTANT FEATURES WHEN STRUCTURING A SYSTEM ANALYSIS
• Ticket Design.

• Departures.

• Files.

• Interactions with the database.

• Controls.

• Procedures.

• Specifications.

SYSTEM DESIGN STAGES

The System Design stage contains four stages:
• The data design: Transforms the information domain model, created during the analysis,
into the data structures necessary to implement the Software.
• The Architectural Design: Defines the relationship between each of the structural
elements of the program.
• The Interface Design: Describes how the Software communicates with itself, with the
systems that operate along with it and with the operators and users that use it.
• Procedure Design: Transforms structural elements of the program architecture. The
importance of Software Design can be defined in a single word Quality, within the design is
where the quality of the Project is promoted. Design is the only way to accurately
materialize customer requirements.
The systems designer must make the following decisions:
• Organize the system into subsystems

• Identify the concurrence inherent in the problem

• Assign subsystems to processors and tasks

• Select an approach for data warehouse management

• Manage access to global resources

• Select the control implementation in software

• Manage boundary conditions

• Set priority compensation

In Conclusion, an Information System development project comprises several components
or steps carried out during the analysis stage, which helps to translate the client's needs
into a System model that uses one of the components: Software, hardware, people,
database, documentation and procedures.

In an organization or company, the analysis and design of systems, is the process of

studying its situation in order to observe how it works and decide if an improvement is
necessary; the one in charge of carrying out these tasks is the systems analyst.

Before beginning the development of any project, a Systems study is conducted to detect
all the details of the current situation of the company. The information gathered with this
study serves as the basis for creating several Design strategies. Administrators decide what
strategies to follow.

Managers, employees and other end users who become increasingly familiar with the use
of computers are playing a very important role in systems development.

All organizations are Systems that act in a reciprocal manner with their environment
receiving inputs and producing outputs. Systems that may be formed by other systems
called subsystems and function to achieve the purposes of their implementation.
