Presentation On Microchip - General by DBPL

The document proposes using radio frequency identification (RFID) microchips to electronically identify livestock animals. RFID microchips would be injected into animals using a syringe and then scanned using a handheld reader. This allows for secure individual identification of animals and improves inventory control. The project would involve collecting animal data like breeding history and milk production to create a centralized database for livestock management.

Why Electronic Identification?
(RFIDs) or Microchipping are fast becoming the
method of choice for animal identification.
Tattoos often fade and become hard to read and
ear tags can become lost.
Many animal owners are claiming success with
the ease of application of electronic identification
(“Microchipping
(“Microchipping”).
”). Furthermore,
“Scanning” animals with a convenient handheld
reader is easy and the implants are simple to
inject into the animal.
Two Choices for Electronic Identification
•Electronic Ear Tags
•Transponder Implants - Micro chips

What is a Micro Chip ?
Micro chips is an electronic transponder sealed in a
glass capsule coated with Parylene C (a compound
compatible with living cells which invites normal tissue
growth around the device).
The implant has no batteries to replace or moving parts
that wear out thereby offering long term identification.
Once within the reader's electromagnetic field, the
implant is energized and transmits unique ID number to
the reader in milliseconds.

How is the Micro chip Injected?
 The micro chip is inserted
into the subject with a
hypodermic syringe.
Injection is safe and
s im p le, comp a r a b l e t o
common vaccines.
Anesthesia is not required
nor recommended.

Microchip is housed in a sterile needle and

syringe as shown below:

How is the Micro chip read?
Micro chip is read with the help of a reader. The reader
consists of an "exciter" coil which creates an
electromagnetic field that, via radio signals, provides the
necessary energy (less than 1/1000 of a watt) to "excite"
or "activate" the implanted microchip. The reader also
carries a receiving coil that receives the transmitted code or
ID number sent back from the "activated" implanted
microchip. This all takes place very fast, in milliseconds.
The reader also contains the software and components to
decode the received code and display the result in an LCD
display. The reader also includes a RS-
RS-232 port to attach a
computer.

Benefits of a Microchip
 Secure Individual identification.
 Superior readability and performance.
 Error--free, tamperproof, unique identification
Error
numbers.
 Inventory control.
RFID chips reduce the error rate of entering
animal data.
RFID tags can be used with other lab automation
system and Integrate health records with
database.
Microchips improve the integrity of the breeding
and experimental data and can reduce costly
errors and loss related to mistaken identity.

Frequently Asked Questions
about Micro Chip
Q: Life Span of the Micro chip?
A: Designed to last for more then 25 years and
guaranteed for the life span of the animal.
Q: Can the animal be allergic to the micro chip?
A: The microchip is inert, smooth and biocompatible,
there is virtually no chance of the body developing an
allergy or trying to reject the microchip after being
properly injected.
Q: Can the microchip move around once inside the body
of the animal?
A: When properly implanted, a small layer of connective
tissue forms around the microchip, preventing
movement or migration of the chip.

Overview of the work
Designing, development and operationalization of system
to create an authentic and reliable database of pedigree,
performance, health status, calving and other elements
along with the particulars of ownership of dairy animals an
to identify, register, plant unique Identification Tag (RFID)
with special numbers and create database.
Supply of Inject able Microchip, data entry, data collection
, certificate generation and manpower training.
 Development of Livestock management software.
Preparation of Central Server Room compatible with server
& its efficient working at Centralized
HQ Level, installation of server with peripherals and its
connectivity to all remote location The project deals with
installation of I.T. Hardware along with internet, and
printer facility at remote locations.

Implementation Strategy
IGICG, with a team of 20 veterinary doctors, will organize
camps at block level with the help of local government
setup where farmers shall come and register themselves
with their animals.

IGICG will collect data on the farmers status like if he is in

BPL category so that some aid can be given to him for the
premium on insurance/vaccination/loan installment etc.

IGICG will also enter data related the farmer, animal and
other related into central database running on server at
state centre.

The milk output data for block level will also be collected
(based on farmers verbal commitment) so as to have a
comprehensive milk output data right up to the block level.
