V. Learning Content/s Keeping Homes School Communities Healthy through proper Waste Management

Concept
Wastes could be classified as biodegradable, non-biodegradable, and hazardous wastes.
Biodegradable are wastes that can be decompose or destroy by itself. Non-biodegradable
are those that cannot be destroyed by any means even if they are burned. Hazardous
wastes are dangerous wastes that are harmful to people, plants, and animals. The wastes
that belongs to Biodegradable are paper, kitchen waste, yard cuttings and etc. The
materials or wastes that belongs to Non-biodegradable are plastics, Styrofoam, glass, can
and etc. The wastes that belongs to Hazardous Waste are chemicals, used batteries,
expired medicines and etc. The different ways of keeping the school and community
environments healthy through cleaning, through planting trees and proper waste
management.

( 8 minutes) What did you do during weekends? (Ans: sleeping, eating, playing, cleaning and etc.)
Show a picture with of garbage and ask the pupils.

What have you noticed with the pictures? (Ans: there are lots of garbage.)

4. What should we do from the different wastes that we see in our environment?

5. What are the different types of identification and separation of waste?( Ans: Biodegradable, Non-
Biodegradable and Hazardous Waste)

6. What are the different waste can be found at school,home and in the community?( Ans: paper,
plastics, cans, kitchen waste, yard cuttings,glass,Styrofoam,expired medicines, used batteries,
chemicals and others.)

etc.

VII. Learning Enablement:
Make a slogan for a waste segregation campaign. Group 1 will post their work in the Market,
group 2 will post their slogan in the Plaza, group 3 will post their slogan in the Barangay Hall, group 4
will post their work in School, and the group 5 will post their slogan in the Beach.
