Action Research

This document presents a research study on enhancing oral communication skills among 4th grade students at Aurora Elementary School. It identifies poor oral communication as an issue and examines how a 5-minute daily oral reading exercise may help address it. The study will use a descriptive qualitative design with systematic random sampling to compare the speaking abilities of two groups - one that does readings over 5 minutes and one that reads exactly 5 minutes. Data will be collected through observations and assessments of students' speaking skills before and after the reading exercises to determine the impact on their oral communication development.

Five Minutes Oral reading: Enhancing and Developing Oral Communication Of Grade IV

pupils Of Aurora Elementary School

1. Contex/Rationel

Reading and speaking are challenging classroom objectives for many teachers.
students have been oral language users since their first year of life. they use language for
variety of purposesquite naturally ang meaningfully. But the oral language has fomidable
inadequacies, it may be hart for them to express ideas, feeelings, and beliefs; they me
not able to speak at lenght about school, realted to topics, higher level thingking to
could be difficult to verbalize, and linguistic concept such as identifying the grammatical
elements of sentences structure are difficult for them discern.

Communication is a key part of students learning and teaching the communication skills
that students learn now can benefit them in the future. students need to be able to
communicate with their teachers and peers. Understanding can help to become better
communicators.

Oral communication refers to words and articulstion (Gamble & Gamble 2010). Its
importants that an educator is able to understand students knowledge of is a logic
concept. One way to do is by asking open-ended question and teachers can stimulate
student's growth knowledge through the ways they ask and respond to question
(piccolo, harbaugh, carter, capraro, 2008 p. 380)

The poor oral communication of Grade IV students is found out by the reseach due to
kik of of reading confidence in communicating eith other orally. and teacher are key kills
for any teacher and students alike. educator have to be willing to push students to
become good communicators.

II. Review of Related Literature

Oral communication includes talking, listening, questioning, expalining , defining,

discussing, justifying anddefending. when students participate in this action in an active,
focus, and purposeful way, they are furthering their understanding for something
(Ontario Ministry of education, 2006 p.66.) Oral communication is much better if you
speak what is in your mind and you understand the other side of the speaker. Better
understanding will result a better communication. also effective oral communication
required the ability to use the language correctly in having asocial interactions that
involves not only verbal communications but also paralinguistic elemts of speech such as
pitch, stress and intonation.

Moreover, non linguistic elements such as gestures, body language and expressions
are needed in conveying messages directly without any accompanying speech. this kind
of commucation is not in oral from but rather just some gestures. Individual usually find
this non linguistic elements as usual por a lot of individual usually find this non linguistic
elements as a usual or a lot of individual use this kind of communication because of
inability to express their thought, feelings and ideas. they intended to do this rather to
speak would they want to say or what to express.

We can say that there are some people who are comfortable in writing than
speaking. He/she can make a beautiful and organize essay when he/she is writing but
he/ she lost his/ her ideas orally. And that iwhy I've find oral communication a little bit
difficult to achieve because it needs a big confidenced and a strong heart to stand and
deliver your ideas orally.
