HEAVY WEATHER NAVIGATION CHECKLIST

(To be completed when expecting or navigating in heavy weather)

□ Inform Master/Chief engineer/engine room/galley dept and crew.


□ Weather routeing and forecasts scrutinized.
□ Hatch cover locking devices checked.
□ Container lashing rechecked/tightened.
□ Anchors properly lashed and brakes engaged.
□ Dampers for ventilators and cargo holds closed.
□ Stores, equipment etc stowed on deck secured.
□ Forward store checked and additional lashing applied as necessary.
□ Paint locker checked and all paint secured.
□ All mooring ropes and loose gear on deck shifted in stores.
□ Steering room checked and additional lashing applied as necessary.
□ Engine room checked and additional lashing applied as necessary
□ Watertight doors closed.
□ Pilot ladder and portable gangway secured.

□ Chief cook notified and provision room and galley prepared for rough weather.
□ Furniture and appliances secured in accommodation.
□ Crew instructed about any restrictions in work outside accommodation.
□ Weather, tides and current
□ Speed/course reduced/adjusted as necessary
□ Additional lashings on PC monitors, copy machines and printers.
□ Deck control room prepared for rough weather.
□ If rolling exceeds 25 degrees engine room to be manned.
